Season begins with hopes by Sylvia Bocanegra The Pirate season began with high hopes and great expectations for the Northcoast Section. The preseason began with a disappointing loss to 41 ranked Tracy. But the mighty Pirates came back and beat highly ranked El Cerrito who ended their season 9-1. This was a tough game: they were quick as us and we were playing at the same level, commended David Jeans. The turning point of the Pirates' season was Northgate. Can you remember when they came out uniformed in orange jerseys and white pants and returned to the locker room and came out all orange? That was to motivate us more. After playing not so great against Concord, we didn't really know how we were going to play as a team. We knew we should have played a better game against Concord. Fortunately, we regained our pride once again, stated quarterback, Alan Citero. Going into overtime, Coys Ray's interception in the end zone enabled Maurice Stephens to score on the first play for a touchdown which won the game, 20-14. Listening to players reminisce, the biggest game, including Antioch, was Ygnacio Valley. The Pirates needed this win to share the DVAL title. Not only was it the seniors' last home game but they still sought revenge from last year. This year. we played on our home turf and it was their turn to Iose, stated Brian Lloren. 1. Trent Scott successfully scores another touchdown. 2. Harold Blrton slaps five with Alfred Chatmon after making a spectacular play. 52 VARSITY FOOTBALL ,.,. . ' -A B ' L .V N . . , 'ffj'f 5'.
