Days become longer by John Brooks Hughes-Hart Act of 1983 legislat- ed to school districts to extend the school year from 175 to 180 days and lengthen the class periods by 4-6 mlnutes. Wlth this new law into effect, Mr. Jess Leber, principal, said, It adds up to a lot more reform to the school and Its students. The bill had additional reforms regardlng stronger graduation require- ments, speclal programs, additional requirements for teachers and admin- lstrators, and it required certain follow ups on the school facility. ln the earlier days of our high school, when Mr. Leber was going here, that particular requirement was In effect. There were two exceptions, probation and extenuating circum- stances. A select committee ruled on each case, based on basic guidelines.
