Rallies begin spirit by Diana Velez Rallies helped support football and basketball games with spirit and enthusiasm. Tony Blackman, spirit commis- sloner, worked with her committee to plan rallies with various spirit stunts and a wlde variety of student participation. The purpose of the rallies was to promote school spirit throughout the school and to enhance the spirit throughout the community. Beatstreet rally was successful, consisting of a rapping and breaking contest, involv- Ing many people, Including Desmond Smith, a local DJ. Other themes were Purple Rain, and Pirate Hoedown . Acuna wins crown by Jennifer Puccio Margle Acuna was crowned Miss Plroteer 1984 by Rona Taylor, reigning queen of 1983, on the night of December 14. Lorralne Harrls, dance commls- sloner, introduced each girl and her escort. A majorlty of the ladies were dressed in the hlgh fashlon Guinne Sax style, whlle the men mostly wore dress shirts and sweaters. The theme of the donce was Lady, You Are, wlth silver and blue decorations coverlng the walls and tables. Acuna has been the class' presldent for 4 consecutive years, an actlve member of Student Leadershlp, 3-year veteran flag-twlrler, and the presldent of the Performing Arts Club. which nominated her. The 1984 Mlss Plroteer dance was not very successful since only about 200 students attended. Other members of the court were as follows: Kristine Styers, Miss Football: Llnda Nanez, Mlss Tennis. Sheon Rlvers, Mlss Basketball, Phllomena Cardlnale, Mlss Baseball, Theresa Hllado, Mlss Wrestling, and Llsa Mondragon. Mlss Swimming. 3 MISS PIRATEER
