N by Lisa Mondragon What is spirit? Webster's defines it as being lively or brisk. However. for this school, the definition does not suffice as this school brought a new meaning to the word, Spirit. Through the years, the spirit of Pittsburg High has become a tradltlon with its orange and black decorations throughout the quad and school areas. As one walks down the hallways, we see the many decora: tions of each class' showcase through- out the months, and the many colorful posters of coming events. On Fridays. everyone can see the cheerleaders in their uniforms and other girls wearing the football player's jerseys. lf the cheerleaders are not in uniform, they usually are dressed in particular costumes for a rally. Pep Club played a big part in spirit. Without them. the football games would not seem as exciting. Members of the club attended the games wearing whatever orange and black objects they can find. In their hands, they wave porn pons in the air and their cheers can be heard throughout the field urging our football teams on. The cheerleaders and mascot led the club in cheers. This year's club had outstanding involvement by all members, sales went well and we enjoyed working with the club, commented advisors Mr. Bruce Dexter and Mr. Jim Wagner. 1. Pirates enthusiastically break through the goal poster to begin a victorious half against Northgate. 2. Mayorertes and flag twirlers led the Pitt Marching .Shaw Band on the field before the Ygnaclo Valley game. 3. The Pirate stadium was built ln the 1940's and remains today the best in the league. 4.
