by Natalie Narez Could you imagine Pittsburg students going to Antioch High School? Until 1922, this was the case. Students journeyed by bus to Antioch and attended Riverside Union High School. ln 1922, a branch high school was established as well as our traditional colors of orange and black and our school mascot, the Pirate. Because of its rapid growth and over population, there was a need for a larger building resulting in a new high school. ln 1926. the school district passed a bond issue of S255,000 to build a new brick building on 20 acres. Students entered in the fall of 1928 with the first graduating class holding their ceremony in the study hall in 1929. ln 1930, Central Junior High was built and the freshmen moved there. A high school for sophomores, juniors and seniors was also built. Due to increased enrollment, the district was forced to make more room. The beautiful two-story high school then became a modernized one-story earthquake proof school. ln 1954, not only more students came to the new school, a boys' gym, auditorium, swimming pools, and modern bleachers for the stadium were added. Additional changes occurred when all sophomores began attending south campus, which opened in 1972. In the fall of 1972, the high school became a four-year school with campus on both sides of School Street, along with 4 gyms, 2 libraries, 2 cafeterias and many more classrooms. Students occupied North Campus and the former Central .lunior High. Pittsburg High School is o promis- ing school with a lot of pride, respect and class. ...Sw R 7
