fayvees Break Even 5-5 The Jayvees had a,mediocre season this year. However, their record of five wins and five losses cannot be con- sidered bad for a team of great improvement with four of their five victories coming in the end of the season. The purpose of the Jayyee team is to give experience PAUL CONNOR to players who are too big for the B team and not good Season Captain enough to make the varsity. Only sophomores and juniors f , are eligible for the Jayyee team. i This year's squad chose Paul Connor as the season's captain, and elected Ranie Smith as the Most Valuable Player of the year because of his fine quality of playing and sportsmanship. Knap Coaches Tenth Team Though the original turnout for varsity baseball was over 40, by March the squad had been cut to 21. Some sophomores showed good influence. With much better pitching, this yearis team was stronger than the '58 team, which finished third. Bob Pardi, the number one hurler from the 1958 season was back with the addition of Ivy Lea and Al Linde. The catching suffered a great loss with the departure of Anthony Barraco, but Larry Lewis and Joe Viscuso showed good signs of filling his shoes. The team missed Leon Watkins at first base. This was Coach Tony Knap's tenth year coaching baseball. Bob Pardi tleftl is pitch- ing again for the Pirates.
