Steve Sanfilippo, Dave Cadena, and Ron Lozano Cross Country Joins Pirate Sports Cross-country was added to the Pittsburg high sports program this year. This is a running sport although it differs from track a great deal. Cross-country is not a spectators' sport because the boys run on almost anything and everything, such as logs and hills, and their efforts are not obvious. The course varies. Sometimes the harriers run 2.1 miles and 1.7 miles. Their home course was the city golf course. Ray Kring introduced the sport in his first year at Pittsburg as coach. The cross-country team, according to Coach Kring, had a very successful season. JAYVEE CROSS COUNTRY-TOP ROW. left to right: Barry Kellogg, Lynn Nikkel, Ray Edison, Jeff Leonard, Mike Dealey.
