This year the Pittsburg Pirates were Diablo Valley Athletic League runners-up. ending the season with a 6-1-1 won. lost and tied record. Thousands jammed the Pirate stadium to see a stronger Diablo team defeat a hard fighting Pittsburg team 32-13 in a game that wrested from the Pirates a championship which they had held for four years. To begin the season the Pirates took on two Oakland teams and defeated McClymonds 33-13 and Castlemont 26-0. Playing at home for the third week. the Pirates took on a tough Monterey team in the traditional battle of the cousins. which the Pirates won 21-0. Thousands came to see a vigorous Pacifica team edged by the Pirates 26-13. Crowds jammed the Concord stadium to see the Pirates and Pleasant Hill when Pittsburg won its fifth in a row l-1-0. Playing on the home field. the Pirate varsity came from behind to win the sixth in a row. 19-14. beating the visiting Napa lndians. The annual big little game proved to be exciting and full of thrills as Antioch came as close as ever in eleven years to victorv. The score was 13-13. The Pirates ended the season in twelfth place in all of northern California with more than 300 schools listed. 80
