Richard Seniors Recall Their Golden Year Our golden year has been filled with excitement. accomplishment. and disappointment for the class of '59 The lT0 seniors who are leaving PHS this year have worked hard to make the most of their final year in high school. X The football season started off with a bang with the Pirates defeating Mc-Clymonds of Oakland On October 10. the Pirates defeated Monterey in the annual Battle of the Cousins. However. to their disappt intment. the last game of the season. the Big Little Came with Antioch. ended in a l3-l3 tie. Though the football championship was lost. the season was yery exciting with the last rally being 4'These are your lives. Coaches Knap. DeStefano. and Berkichf' The skit was hilarious but sad as the seniors knew this would be their last Pirate football rally. Vince Darone became the fourth gridder in Pittsburg history to be named on the first team of the All-Northern Football Selections. He also won the Vieira Award. with Lionel Aldridge receiving the 4'fVIost Inspirational Playerl, award. After football. came basketball with the glorious defeat of the Panthers by a score of 38-35. The cheering section roared and trembled as the end of the game approached with a thrilling climax. The second semester brought the club's nominations for Miss Pirateer. with all the candidates waiting for the exciting announcement of the winner. For the seniors. time began to run out. and plans for the Senior Banquet began. When the Senior Ball and Ditch Day approached. one could hear talk of formals and food throughout the campus. While plans were being made. rumors were being heard that the Creative Arts building would be finished for graduation. This brought ohls and ahls from all seniors. As June l3 drew nearer. seniors began to wish they were sophomores. With the trading of pictures and the last days of school approaching. they could all look back on their golden year at PHS and realize that they were pre- pared to meet whatever lies ahead.
