PHS is yery proud of its past record and traditions in the world's oldest sport. Pirate athletes, at one time or another, have held titles at all the large meets-Davis Picnic Day, West Coast Relays. Sectional, Contra Costa DVAL Meet, Califomia Relays, and State Meets. The 1958 team was Class A Davis Picnic Champions and runners-up in the Contra Costa County Championships. The Class B squad was County champs for six years. To uphold these past records was a tremendous task for the 1959 squad that was coached for the first time by Mr. Ray Kring. For the six previous years, Principal Sterling Macfarlane had coached the and Bu track teams.

At the beginning of his third season Coach Bill Davis had his eyes set on winning the league cup and believed that with seven lettermen the Chances were good. This was Bill Kenneyls third year as golf coach. The golf team had one returning letterman with eight other boys, six of whom were sophomores.
