Gongwayl . . Title Holders This year, along with their Varsity Big Brother, the Junior Pirates have retained their 1956 football championship on to 1957, winning 6 out of 7 league games and tying only one. This is Coach Joe Berlcich's second championship squad in the two years he has coached here at Pittsburg High. The Junior Pirates rounded out a perfect season with a l4-7 win over their tradi- tional rivals, the Antioch Junior Varsity. This game meant either losing the champion- ship to Pleasant Hill and placing second in league standings, or being sole champs of the D.V.A.L. section. Miramonte was the only game in which both teams played hard to a scoreless tie. Antioch turned out to be more than the Junior Pirates reckoned tor. But with clashing shoulder pads, hard-running ball carriers, and a determination to win the Junior Varsity closed out a season they can well be proud of. Umphl
