Girls' Athletic Association OFFICERS, Left to Right: Mary DeRouen, president, Veronica Quesada, vice-presidentp Joanne Katanic, secretary, Elizabeth Bugni, treasurer, Janet DiFiori, commissioner of awards. The Girls' Athletic Association, under the supervision of Miss Marilyn Cooper and Mrs. Ruth Lippy, has been one of the most active clubs on the campus this year. Members participate in softball, speed-a-way, volleyball, ping-pong, tennis, and basketball. With the completion of the two new pools this year, the GAA has added swim- ming to its activities. The girls go to playdays with other schools. They took part in a playday at San Francisco State College. The girls sell at concessions during football and basketball games. 66

Pom-Pom Girls Flashing orange and black outfits, big smiles, action and fun-that's the Pom-pom girls. To acquaint you with the PHS morale boosters, their names are Claire Roybal, Norine Lombardo, Karen Richardson, Janet DiFiori, and Angela Cataldo. Rose Magas heads the lively group. Eligibility to run for Pom-pom girl is de- cided by a point system. Points are acquired by attendance at all football and basketball games, yelling in the rooting section, and sell- ing concessions. At the end of the year the girls with the most points try out. The head Pom-pom girl, future head Pom-pom girl, and Pep club adviser choose the next year's Pom- pom girls from the group of applicants. The activities of the Pom-pom girls not only help them have an active and happy school experience, they likewise develop ad- mirable qualities for later life.
