The drama class of Pittsburg Senior High School presented several well-known plays this year. Some of the most Talented student thespians were in the casts. Mr. Francis Costord, drama class instructor, chose Zona Gale's The Neighbors as the first production of the year. This play was followed by Marco Goes A Courtin'. The plays were presented for the students, parents, elementary school pupils, and the Community Hospital patients. Acting develops students in poise and seltecontidence. Also, through the experi- ences acting otlers, one acquires clear speaking and a greater ability to memorize. 54

The American Junior Red Cross is dedicated to serving others, our school, our community, our country, and the nations of the world. Under the sponsorship ot Mrs. Eugenia Blum, our high school organization has attempted to carry out these aims through various activities. Among the many accomplishments, they again sponsored a clothing drive for the needy ot the world, made layettes and Hxed cartoon scrapbooks to send to hospitals and rest homes, Also for the first time the club ottered services to the Lynn Training Center, a newly established school for retarded students in our area. This year the JRC inaugurated a new governing body, the Junior Red Cross Council. This council, composed ot representatives from the Senior, Junior, and Sophomore classes, decided the maior activities ot the organization.

Choir Mr. Jones leading the Choir. This year the Choir under the direction of Mr. Jones, has thirty-nine members, nine of them boys. They are doing a great iobf' states Mr. Jones, who is pleased with the interest and enthusiasm members have shown. This year the Choir sang on November lO at the University of California where there were approximately four-thousand student singers. The day started out with dif- ferent high schools singing and the Pittsburg High School Choir sang in the morning. At noon they ate lunch at the Greek Theater where the Choral Society of the Uni- versity sang for the students. In the afternoon they attended a football game. In February they went to the College of Pacific for a Festival. They sang at our own Christmas program. Choir members are also working on a one-act comedy opera entitled Dizzy Baton. The male lead will go to Victor Billeci and all the other characters center around him. Mr. Jones thinks this year's choir is the best in many years. 55
