FIRST ROW, Left to Right: Elsie Macfarlane, Tina DiMercurio, Angela Cataldo, Karen Richardson, Kenny Lucido, Levi Glasper, Andrea Davi, Lou Bartee. SECOND ROW: Barbara Cappucini, Nancy Parent, Karol Krey, Bruce Carlson, Frank Matamoros. Student Council Ken Lucido, Fall President The student council has done a great deal to help with the progress and rapid improvements of Pittsburg High School. This past year members of the council had to accomplish much of the work at the business meetings because of the lack of a leadership class. Council members hope that next year the class will again be in the curriculum. Representatives attended two meetings of the California Association of Student Councils and four meetings of the Diablo Valley lnterschool Council. At these meetings mutual problems of the schools were discussed. Later in the year four delegates were sent to the Governor's Conference on Youth Participation in Community Affairs. This is the first year that Pittsburg has attended. Members again sold bookcovers at the student bank. They also worked after school setting up booths for the concessions for football and basketball games. Elsie Macfarlane, commissioner of records, said, Our concession program seems to work better than those ot other schools but still needs improvement. 4-0

LEFT TO RIGHT are Paul Kayfetz, JoAnn Olvera, Levi Glasper, Elsie Macfarlcine, and Arlene Bonarl. Spring Council Levi Glasper Mr Macfarlane President Advisor This year, your Student Council has faced some confusing times. First of all, we do not have the leadership class. Those of us who are now working on the Council realize the great importance of this class. lt is sincerely hoped that next year we may once again include the leadership class for your Student Council. As your Student Council advisor, I hope the knowledge gained in your council work will inspire you to seekr further knowledge that you might prepare yourselves for the solution of the many problems facing your community, your state, your nation, and the world. Those of you who have taken part in the Student Council work and activities of your school have already shown a willingness to assume responsibilities beyond your requirements. It is this willingness to do a little more than is required of you in your school today which will surely make you the leaders of your community tomorrow. We must all remember that most of the progress in ways of peace and civili- zation has come out of confusing times such as these. The highest determination of men and women with peaceful souls is that we equip ourselves educationally for a free world. Sterling Macfarlane 41
