CLASS HISTORY We, who are Seniors of Pittsboro High School, will soon be ending our school career. We can look back over our school days with sweet memories which can be treasured all during our lives, but, of course, we find in those past years, some regrets also. It might be best to forget the past, but somewhere we learned that the past is the foundation of the future and besides, it would be impossible to erase years such as these have been. We, therefore, wish to leave the history of our class to you whom we leave behind. In the early fall of 1940, fortydwo bright eyed little children began their school days. Some being very happy, while other’s rosy little cheeks were lined with tears and “Mommy” could be heard ever so often, when one remembered he had a “Mommy.” Then, almost before our little minds could comprehend what the commotion was, we found ourselves seated in second grade seats, that is, when we weren’t seated in the corner. The third and fourth grades are remembered well because of a teacher who was strict on conduct and did not mind using the paddle, if necessary. The fifth, sixth, and seventh grades were not as eventful as some, but we can remember struggling over studies which probably can be remembered by learning long division which seemed difficult to some of us. Our eighth grade can be remembered by a teacher who fully believed in pre¬ paring us for high school, a teacher whom we can sincerely thank today because it has proved a great benefit to us. At last, the great event had arrived, forty eight of us had become freshmen! As we marched down the halls our first day of high school, we felt every inch of our height. Before we could realize it we were sophomores. Our sophomore year was one of reckoning. We had to settle down to study, and help keep the freshman out of trouble. Our junior year had at last come. We found ourselves up to our necks in preparing for the Junior-Senior Banquet, and ourselves to become seniors. We have now reached our last year of school, and are surprised to find only twenty-four of us to carry on the name and spirit of this little class which began its school career in that fall of 1940. W’e can now look to the past and re-live in memory the picnics, class meetings and gatherings, and Homecomings which have played their part in making this career an enjoyable one. As we look back, we can not help but remember those who are no longer with us. Their reasons vary from Uncle Sam to matrimony. It would be an impossibility to express our WiSiies for each one separately, but we do wish for each and every one of them the very best that can be found in life’s storehouse for happiness. XT express our sincere appreciation to our principal, Mr. McGregor and to the faculty of this present year and the years in the past for our understanding, guidance, and faith in us as human beings when there were times when you possibly had your doubts .You have inspired the members of our class to become outstanding in the events and activities of our school. We say from the bottom of our hearts, thanks for everything! As our school days come to a close, we bid you, whom we leave behind good-bye, and may the blessings of God rest upon vou through the remainder ot }our school days. PAULINE ELLIS, Historian
