Skl Trlp We all had fun on the ski trip even though we had our ltups and downs? Our Kincaid Coach, sleeper bus, rolled out of Pittmanls south lot around 4:30 P.M., Friday after- noon. After that, we spent thirteen long hours on the bus. When we linally got to our Win- ter Park YMCA Camp, about 6:00 AM. Saturday, we had our first look at oursum'que rooms. They were dormatory-style rooms, six people in each; it was very cozy. Af- ter everyone changed intoski cloth- es, it was off to breakfast. Now, the meals Were really something to taste, if you could tell what you were eating!! They were indescribable, some thought the school lunches were better! Once we got through the has- sle of getting skis, boots, and poles, it was up to the slopes. The moun- . tains were beautiful. Most of the be- ginners stayed on the Winter Park slopes, but the more daring at- tempted Mary J ane. For those with energy left, there were other activities like rol- ler skating, tubing, and the use of the gym. After two and a half days ski- ing everyone was sore and tired. But, then thereywas the long bus ride home. ' 10 Pittman Hills J unior' High ,7 MVWIJWAWWWfYWwaVWW v Hg iiUps an The Battle tween the fam freshmen took February 19 in gym. The iiBoston Machineii was about a gentleman traveling by car in the early 1900s to visit relatives in a nearby city. The poor man is beset with all sorts of problems such as a mouthy mother-in-law, a loose pet snake, rain, rotten neighborhood kids and family, s a spoiled brat, an unappreciative hitchhiker, fog, and car trouble. All of which combine to make a thoroughly amusing play. itThe Reluctant Dragonh was a readers theater about an above average dragon and his mock battle with St. George. With the aid of a sheperds son who understood the dragon and his love of poetry and peace, a mock battle was worked out enabling the dragon and St. 'George and the people of the village to live happily everafter. 01 Never Saw Another Butterflyii was a story of a younger Jewish girl and her terrifying experiences in the Jewish Ghetto of Terezin in German occupied Poland. When Terezin was liberated, this young girl was one of the hundred remaining Jewish children. Over 14,000 had perished in the ghetto: which was a stopping off place to Auschwitz. 5 ! g , i Z a 9 2 The Pittman Christmas ASSembly was presented by the Drama and Music students and the famous faculty choir, all under the direction of Mrs. Maddox and Mr. Parsons. The assembly opened with a reading of a slightly humorous set of morning announcements by Mr. Brooks. Danny Sharitz was dressed as Santa on a skate board and another group of students did a skit on a K001 Christmas. Several humorous Christmas cards were read to, various teachers from the students. The program was rounded out with great vocal endeavors by the Freshman Choir, Boys Octet, and the Trebleairs. They sang such favorites as, Mrs. Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer accompanied by funny posters and several of the other old Christmas favorites. Truly, the highlight of the assembly was the Faculty Choir with base drummer extraordinaire Coach Jeffries and triangle solos by Mrs. Markland. The Faculty Choir was joined by the Freshman Choir in their adaptation of the iiTwelve Days of Christmas? A great Christmas Assembly that was a super way to start our Christmas Vacation. Unfortunately he suffered from cancer. After his untimely death Pittman students gathered $1500 and donated it to a fund. This money will be used for a nature center at Cave Springs Park in honor of Art.. Work begins on the center in April of this year. Hayden Logston was a familiar face to Pittman,s musicals. The only thing that stopped his activities in' drama was a borken neck. Not for long, Hayden is now spending his Freshmen year at CMSU, thanks to the Theatre Scholarship he received. Way to go! Diana Ozbun, another former Pittman student certainly had a four leaf clover in 1975! She won 3 albums, 2 Worlds of Fun passports, 2 dozen doughnuts, a carton of 7 -UP and 2 tickets to a Haunted House! All in just a few months. Was that the end of such a phenomena? We,ll never know. The faculty and student body have worked hard to build a reputation of which the community can be proud; As your principal, I am looking forward to an- other year of continued progress and achievement. It contained 28 pages and was put together by the staff you see on this page and the sponsor was Miss Shar- on Milberger. By 1967 the book had ex- panded to 66 pages with a little sturdier cover. In 1968, Mr. Byerley the art teacher took over sponsorship and increased the number 'of pages to 102. The next major change took place in 1973 when M. Richard- son took over sponsorship and increased the number of pages to 110. In 1977, the book underwent a major change. It became a hardback book with 112 pages. The name was changed from Pittman Profiles to Panther- ama. This marks the final year for the yearbook and this issue con- tains an extra 16 pages for our history section. The Panther Prowl began as a four-page school news- paper in the fall of 1967. Mrs. Rose Ann Meier, who then taught English and Spanish at Pittman, was its first sponsor. At that time, the only way that the print- ing was affordable was to raise the money for the monthly issues by selling subscriptions $1.00 a yearl and by othei; less conventional methods. 7 The first fundraiser was a successful sock-hop, com- plete.with Phil Jay, a disc jockey from WHB. In later years, thing got a little crazier. One year, for example, the staff sponsored a llWelcome to the Funny Farmli day at Pittman. Students came to school with really bizarre outfits - purple and green faces, rollerskates v and football helmets, baby bonnets and rubber boots with pajamas - and ended the day with a dance. The price of admission bought a year,s subscription. In 1975 the Student Council ended this madness and generously began paying for The Prowl to be printed. At that time, the printing for one issue cost $95.99; now it costs approximately $243.00! Our newspaper has always been a project produced entirely by an extra-curricular staff of eighth and ninth grade students, who try-out and, are selected by the sponsors each year. The staff selects the material, draws the sketches, writes the articles, takes the photographs, . and with the help of typing classes, completes all the copy themselves. It is a challenging and rewarding ac- tivity for all who are involved - the staff members; the sponsors, Mrs. Turner and Miss Graham; the student body and faculty, who enjoy the paper each month. i Vol. II, No. 6 lTiS TODAY! The production started as a variety show and Jim Par- sons and Mrs. Kathy Albina, speech teachers, spiced it up with a plot. Aunt Maudie Moody's Malt shop mortgage is to before- closed by Big Louis in the beginning of the Parsons- Albln Story. The Students at nearby Finley high school hear of the malt shop'swoes and the Student council de- cides to hold the school vari- ety show in the malt shop for the benefit of Aunt Mau- die. From this point, the show mrns into a variety show With 13 acts. They include a drill team, vocal groups, solos, and a magician. By combining the drama- tlc' presentation with the variety show, the speech tea- chers hava been able cohave nearly 100 students in the production. Nineteen have speaking parts in the play. The 2-year-old junior high has seventh and eighth grad- ers. Mrs. Molly Jessup and Paul Smith, music instruc- tort; have developed the mu- sic. The scenery was made by Bob Byerley, art teacher, and his students. The 50$ admission is to help a cause, although not to save a malt shop. The money will help purchase stage curtains. For Hey, Look Us Over, the gym will be blacked out for scene changes. The curtain-helping time tonight is 7:30. PI WHY CW .
