THE TIGER Pitkin High School Pitkin, Louisiana Foreword The 1970 Tiger has captured within its pages rewarding moments that were shared by the students and faculty of Pitkin High School. What seemed in the hot, latter days of August to be a long, endless year ahead has now closed its doors to remain forever a memory. For some this was a first year of initiation; for others a last year of preparation. For all it was a year of memories that will remain in the shadows of our minds to be brought forth and reminisced each time the pages of this book are opened. In the classroom as well as on the court, students met victory and defeat. As a group we huddled together to face the new oppor- tunities of tomorrow. 1969-70 was a game ... teacher... friends ... the past... hope... fear... happiness... a memory ... pointing on toward the future. Moments of playing the game . . . . . . of assemblies i aO . . . memories ... , . . . fun . . . Mr. Spence 1970 Tiger Dedication Because of your patience, strength, hard work, and devotion to high ideals ... Because of the long hours you spend in service to students, faculty, church, and community .,. Because of the Christian principles you live by - your sense of fairness and your capable leadership .,. Because of the extra hours of study and preparation you spend always striving to make the better best ... Because you are always there working quietly and effectively behind the scene ... Because of these and many more intangible qualities that show us you sincerely care. We, the Yearbook Staff, are proud to dedicate the 1970 Tiger to MR. JESSE JACKSON SPENCE. Principal’s Message 1969-70 brings not only a close to the school year but an end to the decade. A decade filled with discoveries and space exploration almost beyond man’s grasp. I would like to thank the students, parents, faculty, and staff for their help in making our school a part of this success story. 1960-70 is more than the close of a school year and decade. It is the beginning of a new era in the field of education; a new era that I’m looking forward to with anticipa- tion. MR. B. R. HARVEY Superintendent’s Message May the pictorial scenes in this attractive publication help you remember with enjoyment your school days, the pleasant associations with classmates and teachers, and inspire you to continue worthwhile activities. My wish is that your future will be so planned and lived that the important experiences of your life will bring you both honor and happiness. I congratulate the staff and sponsors for publishing this informative yearbook which reflects so many school accomplishments. Sincerely, Curtis Bradshaw Superintendent of Vernon Parish Schools School Board Member's Message I wish to express my thanks to the faculty, student body, patrons, and staff who have worked so hard to make this a successful school year. To the 1970 graduating class, may this be a stepping stone to higher goals in life. My best wishes to you. Sincerely, Walter R. Nolen Vernon Parish School Board and Staff Mr. Harvey, Prin. B.S.
