Commercial Club Originally this club was just for the girls who took second year shorthand and office prac- tice. This year the club membership was en- larged to include juniors as well as seniors. The main purpose of the Commercial Club is to promote aecuracv in all business skills. The following girls were officers of the club: President, Pat Hallibaughg Vice-President, Janice Ionesg Secretary, Shirley Blarkelz Treasurer. Lois Bolden. Under the able guidance of Nliss Rita Ken- ney, the girls planned many activities during the year. Some of these were a trip to Pittsburgh. a number of visits from prominent citizens of Pit- cairn, and a demonstration on good grooming for business. Spanish 2 The Spanish Il Club was organized to cre- ate a wider knowledge of the Spanish language. The club met every Friday in home room 12. At the first meeting the following officers were elected: President -Eugene Hreha Vice president Stanley Penkova Secretary . . . Thora Flack Treasurer ,. , Bernard Geiger Among the various activities the club par- ticipated in were: an Eyes of March dance. a field trip to the University of Pittsburgh. a Christmas covered dish dinner and a banquet at the end of the year. Under the direction of Mrs. A. B. Bergman, the club had a very success- ful year. I I X x panish 1 The members of this elub are from the Span- ish I Class. The officers for the year were liuth :Xnn Thurn, President, Donnie SlcCaig. Vice- Presidentg Cene Burke, Treasurerg and Pat Brooky, Secretary. The purpose of our club was to further the knowledge and speaking of the members of the Spanish l Club. XVe took a field trip to the Nixon Theatre and visited Spanish Classes at the Uni- versity of Pittsburgh. YVe had a Nlardi Cras on january 9 which was very successful. Spanish senoritas and sen- ares sold refreslnnents. livery one took part in the Mexican Hat Dance. XVe feel that we have learned interesting facts about our south of the border friends with Nlrs. A. B. Bergman as our advisor. tudent Council Student council is an organization whose main objective is to serve the student body. All members of this council must have a CH average. Robert McCabe Was elected president, Lee .Xfrica vice president, lennie Nlinicucci recording secretary, and Nancy Rodgers corresponding sec- retary, and Paul Thurn treasurer. Nlr. Sparks was the advisor. Some of the projects were the sending of four delegates to a convention of the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils. issuing honor cards and pins, acting as guides for open house. holding dances. and sponsoring a pop bottle drive. YVe conducted an asseniblv in the form of a regular meeting which was well received bv the students.

Boys Leaders Club The Boys Leaders Club consisted of a group of boys who tried to bring to you each year a bigger and better gym exhibition. Their instruc- tor was Nir. Charles Klausing who had spent a great deal of his time helping these boys with their work. The officers of the Club were as follows: President Don Kncpshield Y. President james Penncbalxer Secrctary-treasurer Nlikc Kassimatis Alma Club The ALMA Club is composed of boys and girls who were awarded the American Legion Medal Award in eighth grade. XVe held a dance for the benefit of the March of Dimes. Each contributed what they wanted. Proceeds were given to the March of Dimes. VVe elected Pat Ilallibaugh as our president. These students were under the direction of Nliss Pendro during the first semester and Xlr. XYilliam Smith the last semester. Robert Xlc-Cabe was elected president. Edward lloward vice president. and Nlargic llolxshu secretary- treasurer. The senior members of this club planned two debates with Trafford and two with the junior members of the club. The stu- dents found it very enjoyable and educational looking for reference material in preparing their speeches for these debates. Librar s Association Y The Library Club members act as assistants to the librarian. ln addition to their regular assigned duties. they are responsible for special exhibits or bulletins concerning the library. New officers are elected every three months in order to give more students the responsibility of leadership. The library club consists of seventh and eighth graders.
