Board of Education Left to Right - Nl. Het se C. A. Decker. Sl. Cm Dr. 'lf ul. Kelly. ll. Sic Haig, T. Keelcv. lf. NIL Ananv, F. Africa. 1'fl7l lHfll'll'5 0 llqlllj flfl lrlfffgf l4tl0l1 0 C100 if Q5 ' f' - J 25- J! - S I f The Public School Code of Pennsylvania places complete and final control over all mat- ters pertaining to the educational svstem in the local school board. In the interpretation of the power and duties of the Board it is understood that the Board shall act as a legislative bodv in the determina- tion of general policies for the control. opera- tion. maintenance and expansion of the public schools, execution of which shall be the respon- sibilitv of the administrative staff. In complving with the above the Pitcairn School Directors have provided the financial support neeessarv to carry on a complete pro- gram and have provided manv specific improve- ments in the secondary program. A few of the major improvements are: Providing the equiva- lent oi' a full-time guidance counselorg complet- ing the installation of flourescent lighting in all classroomsg purchasing a new auditorium curtaing equipping one classroom with new desks: pro- viding a full-time secretarv to the high school principal and part time assistance to the music director. 1954 Qfroapecf Along with the numerous improvements for the student bodv the School Board has pro- vided a separate teachers room for men and women of the facultv. This improvement in- directlv aids the student also. for bv giving the facultv more adeouate and comfortable rooms keep them in better spirits and makes them much more understanding with the students. The School Board in keeping with tradition of providing a fine facultv this vear added Miss Donahue. Nliss Duncan. Miss Carvis. Mr. Cala- gaza. and Xlr. Thomas to the alreadv excellent teaching staff. A new member. Mr. Milton Cook, was elect- ed to the Board to fill the vacancy made bv the expiration of Nlr. Ilarrv Peer's term. The students of Pitcairn High School have much to be thankful for. Especially for the fact that the voters of Pitcairn continually elect a School Board which works untireingly to see that administration, faculty, and school equip- ment are the very best obtainable for the re- sources of the school system.
