Q7 X FRESHMAN CLASS OFFICERS-Left to Right: Gary Adams, Fred Mendicino, Mrs, Bergman, Henny Ballenger, Nancy Keeley Almost a year ago, we Freshies, bewild- ered, confused, and mystified, embarked upon our initial voyage on the good ship, High School. However, we found that even though all our classes were in the high school, we were still considered part of the Junior High. But we refused to let this knowledge dampen our spirits, so we quickly adapted our new environment and set about to prove our leadership and ability. We organized our class selecting for our ollficers Fred Mendicino, President, Henrietta Ballenger, Vice President, Nancy Keeley, Secretary, and Gary Adams, Treasurer. Mrs. Bergman was our class adviser. In spite of the fact that many of the senior high activities were not open to us, we eagerly joined those which welcomed us. Those of us who were interested in music proudly joined the ranks of the band. In the Student Council Roger Borst, Nancy Rodgers, Mary Ann Hoff, and Fred Mendicino gave the freshman point of view in matters of discussion. A great many members of the Freshman class ioined the Girls' Leaders Club, the Boys' Leaders Club, the Library Club, the Hi Y, the Tri Hi Y, the Stage Crew, Chess Club, Press Club, and the American Legion Award Club. Many members of the class also partici- pated in the aym exhibition. In the field of sports the boys earned a dis- tinction for their class. On the gridiron ten fel- lows showed great promise for the future foot- ball history of P. H. S. They were Gary Adams, Chuck Conrad, John Schmitt, Paul Mauro, Bob Parks, Terry McGauley, Don McCraig, Dave DeVito, Kenny Hayward, Bill Duncan. Acting as managers for the football sauad were Orelio Vec- chio and Paul Troy. Some of our boys also went out for basketball. Those on the iunior high squad were Allen Border, Jim Flcry, Chuck Con- rad, Bob Williams, Gary Adams, Don McCaig, Richard Fisher, Paul Mauro, Kenny Hayward, Fred Mendicino, Bob Parks, Bill Duncan, and Clyde Edwards. Orelio Vicchio and Paul Troy were also the iunior high basketball managers. We Freshmen have acquired our knowledge this far by ups and downs. With an eye on the achievements of this enterprising class of '53, one can be sure that our members will write a brilliant history on the future of Pitcairn High School, our Alma Mater.
