Their purposes are to further interests in home economics, encourage dernocracy in tire horne and community and emphasize the irrif portance of a good home life. Under their otti- cers, Betty Gipson, President, llene Krise, Vice- Presidenty Carol Stiftler, Secretaryy Dorothy 'Wal- lace, Treasurer: and Mrs. L. Kuhns, Advisor, the girls planned a complete recreation prograzri. During this year, two representatives, Ruth Root and Betty Gipson, attended the State Con- vention ot F. H. A. at Scranton. Their zriotto, Toward New Horizons, is surely an excellent one. HOME ECONOMICS The l-lonie Ec Club consists of a cornbiria- tion ot the seventh and eighth grade vocational students. Their purpose is to increase interest and knowledge in horneznaking. The seventh grade displayed their talent by turning out paintings, shoe shiners, and colorful napkin sets. ln the eighth grade a knitting section was also iorrned. They turned out bright scarts, rnit- tens and oven sweaters. Stutted anirnals and ballerina halt-slips were made by the entire eighth grade club. Miss Lillian Cline is advisor. JUNIOR Under the direction of Mrs. Anna Betty Bergman the Iunior Class presented a three act Farce-Comedy entitled Nuts and Bolts , on November 18th and 19th. The home of Miss Bolts' tashionably styled living room was the scene of the play. The plot was centered around a fortune left by Mr. Ben- jarnin Bolt, which he had securely hidden in Miss Bolts home. This led to a mad scramble in fortune-hunting which brought many laughs to the audiences. IUNIOH PLAY W. Kelly. Brendlinqer, G. Clinton, I. Bearinqer l STAGE CREW Mrs. A. Bergman, I. SENIOR PLAY The Senior Play entitled Life of the Party which was held April 21st and 22nd in the High School auditorium, was a lively understanding study of modern youth and the modern family. The Hughes family moves to Butterfield and begins to choose friends. They make mistakes of course but in the end, they are wiser because of them. They throw a party which they hope will be a success but things which seemed funny before, end as serious implications. The play was under the direction of M. Bernice Keefer. STAGE CREW The stage crew, which consisted of nine members, worked as hard towards making the play a success as did the immediate cast. The girls sewed and the boys took over the role of carpenters. Both worked as a team to produce the desired sound effects. COLLEGE CLUB This year, the College Club has expanded their territory to include aid in general employ- ment as well as entrance in colleges and busif ness schools. Under their presidents, George Myers Ctirst semester? and Betty Salamone tsec- ond semesterl, they have built up a tine collec- tion of catalogues and a complete tiling system open at any time to any student in Boom l4. The efforts ot the club and their advisor, Mr. R. F. Cox, has resulted in various interesting speak- ers who have been a great help to many stu- dents. LIBRARY CLUB The Library Club of this year is under the supervision ot Miss Ioyce Ferguson. Miss Fer- guson has helpers, who are known as student librarians. These student librarians aid Miss Ferguson by taking care of incoming and out- going books, as well as a considerable number ot other duties which need to be done to make a library more efficiently run. STUDENT COUNCIL co-orcfinafej o!5c!Lo0fcurric14!ar acfiuifiw A great effort was made this year to organ- ize a successful Student Council. A group of seniors began by investigating councils in other schools and determining the best set-up for Pit- cairn. A committee, consisting of one member from each home roorn, was elected to draw up the constitution. This constitution was then put before the students. There was some opposi- tion to the idea itself. Before the voting, the con- stitution committee held an assembly at which they tried to clarify each section of the con- stitution and a rally which was strictly for opin- ions on both sides. The vote was a large ma- jority in favor of council and by Christmas we were ready to elect a president. That was Charles Leddon. Other officers, who were elected from within the council, are Vice-Presi- dent, Nancy DeVirgiliog Secretary, Io Anne Backusg and Treasurer, Ianet George. The council elected Mr. Robert F. Cox as their faculty advisor. The first project of council was to sponsor free recording dances in the gym after basket- ball games. By helping with the selling and collecting of tickets, council earned enough to pay for the recordings. Square Dancing was another project which had a good start here. Unfortunately, they were discontinued due to conflicting activities. An Alumni Dance was held on March 3 with the beautiful music of Charles Ioseph's Orchestra. Many ideas were discussed by council that may take some time to carry out. Among these were, to add a course in automobile driving, establish a strong Parent-Teachers Association, build up interest in baseball, sponsor a fund- raising campaign for a swimming pool and bring down the price of dances. A good coun- cil can do a lot for our school and these long- range ideas can come true. Let's hope that Stu- dent Council is here to stay.
