■ The Annual Staff PISGAH SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Canton, North Carolina presents CLIliy eer Editor-in-chief—Jennifer Crisp Assistant Editor—Nancy Jones Bear Country? What is Bear Country? It is a large, densely populated area. Within its borders, bears of all walks of life live and mingle. These bears are active in numerous activities. Their striving for excellence, along with skill and ability, has spread the fame of Black Bears far and wide. There are many well known, popular sports bears whose abilities and efforts have enabled them to be very successful. Outnumbering the sports bears by a large margin are the bear fans. These fans are filled with spirit and pep and are very loyal too. Bear fans are recognized for their high goals in sportsmanship. The numer¬ ous club bears work to make accomplishments that will be re¬ warding for themselves and also for their school and communi¬ ty. Student bears participate not only in clubs and extracurri¬ cular activities, but they also spend a great deal of time study¬ ing and preparing themselves to become the leaders of tomor¬ row. Along with all these serious bears are large numbers of sweetheart bears. These represent the fact that bears are studi¬ ous and also lovable. The faculty bears are very much a part of Bear Country for they hold the future of the bears in their “paws”. A most important segment of the bear population is the group of Papa and Mama bears. They provide more than just food and clothing; they bestow the love and encourage¬ ment that only parents can give. Do not forget the all impor¬ tant cubs for they are the bears of tomorrow. Bears come rn all shapes, types, and sizes; yet they all strive to make Bear Country a great place in which to live. Through the enthusiasm and dexterity of all bears, the great¬ est school that has ever been in Western North Carolina has been built, occupied, and famed to all who have heard its name. Pisgah Senior High School is the very heart and soul of Bear Country. What is Bear Country? This is Bear Country! . . . 3 Where bears lead . . . DEDICA TION It is with great pleasure that we, the Annual Staff of Pisgah Senior High School, dedicate the second edition of the PISGAHTEER to Mrs. Anita Churm, without whose guidance and help we would not have an annual. She guides the Annual Staff in its preparation of the yearbook along with helping the cheerleaders to lead the students in developing school spirit. Many students are also indebted to her for the helping hand she extends to all who need it. The example she sets for us along with her sincere interest has endeared her to all. Because of our respect and love for her, we dedicate this the 1968 PISGAHTEER in honor of Mrs. Anita Churm. MRS. CITIZENSHIP AWARDS For their outstanding citizenship in 1967, Jim Wood, Sharon Criveri, Deborah Brown, and Carroll Jones were chosen as Best Citizens from the sophomore and junior classes. BULLETIN BOARD CONTEST Pisgah’s annual bulletin board contest was won by Mrs. Owen’s homeroom for the second year. Sheila Hannah, the homeroom representative, displays the winning board. MARIE SHANK SCHOLARSHIP Jenny Crisp was nominated for the Marie Shank Scholarship. 147 Jennifer Crisp Editor Nancy Jones Assistant-Editor Luanna Ford Business Manager Patricia Greene Photography Editor Beth Phillips Senior Cathy Lane Senior Linda Reeves Senior Margaret Mitchell Senior Donna Sheppard Senior m?: tfrM •m THE 1968 PISGAHTEER STAFF Mike Smathers, Cherry Cody, Darlene Earley, Marcia Willis, Nina work, they are now prepared to handle the making of the annual Haney, and Robert Allen became members of the annual staff without with experience, the least idea of what they were going to do. After a year of hard We, the PISGAHTEER staff of 1968, faced a tremend- our challenge as we began working on our annual last fall. Last year’s staff produced a prize-winning yearbook, and we wanted to continue this tradition. With only three experience members returning from last year, many difficulties arose that were not fore¬ seen. Despite layout changes, lack of pictures, typing errors, and short deadlines, the 1968 PISGAHTEER has, in some miraculous way, finally become a reality. Without the excellent guidance of Mrs. Churm and the help with finances from Mrs. Hyde, the work would never have been completed. We hope that you, the students of Pisgah Senior High School, will find as much enjoyment in the result of our efforts as we have had in producing the annual—The 1968 PISGAH¬ TEER: The annual staff would like to thank Randy Drake and Jeff Deweese for taking and developing our pic¬ tures. We appreciate the time they have taken from their studies and activities to help make this annual a reality. 149 JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM It’s fun to plan and decorate for the prom. It’s even more fun to enjoy the results. The year of 1967 marked the first prom held at P.H.S. The spirit was high, and a night of fun was enjoyed by all. “Three Coins in a Fountain” was the theme which set the mood for an enchanting evening. Before the dance a luscious banquet was enjoyed by teachers and students. This prom will remain in the minds of all Juniors who worked to sell hose and to make this a night to remember for the Seniors who would be the first to leave the doors of P.H.S.
