The game started with Treanor crossing the goal line. The game seesawed back and forth until both teams managed to run up a total of 26 points. Treanor took scoring honors. This game showed the Arrows still needed a lot of polishing up, especially on de- fense. Pipestone 26 Slayton 0 Our second opponent was not as tough as the first one. Slayton provided the opposition and went down before the power of the Arrows, 26-O. The B squad saw a lot of action after the first quarter and the whole squad looked forward to the oppor- tunity of taking the next team into competition. Pipestone 'I4 Marshall 20 Pipestone scored first on a plunge through the center by Dahl. The Tigers roared right back, with the help of a lapse in the Arrows' defense, to tie it up 7-7 at the half, The Tigers scored twice again in the last half to lead 20-7. Pipestone scored on a pass to Reynolds. Time ran out before the Arrows could get their hands on the ball. Pipestone 7 Jackson 'I2 lHomecorning Gamel Pipestone came back fighting after their de- feat by Marshall to out-fight an exceptionally tough Jackson eleven. The Arrows led throughout most of the game by the slim margin of 7-6. lt wasn't until the last play of the game that Jackson could pierce the Arrows' goal line again. The Arrows can feel proud of the effort they demonstrated in los- ing to this fine Jackson team. The basketball season up to Christmas vacation could be termed a success with the Arrows winning four and losing two. After a three weeks lay-off during vacation, the Arrows went down hill, losing the remaining games. The Arrows were seldom beaten badly, losing three games by one point and others below five. Their chances in the tournament didn't look bright against Luverne who had beaten them twice during the regular season. BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT GAMES Pipestone 50 Luverne 40 Pipestone was primed for their first tournament game, and out-played a fine Luverne team 50-40. The Arrows led most of the game, ending at the half with a slim 2 point margin. At the end of the 3rd period the Arrows had built up a comfortable 9 point lead. The first period was evenly played, with the Arrows gaining just l point extra for their lead. Ben- jamin was back to his early season form, getting 24 points. Pipestone's greatest tournament rival was once more taken care of. SEASON SCORES '50-'51 Pipestone 4l ...................... Lakefield 27 38 ......................... ROW 2: Coach Joe Strom, Paul Brockberg, Larry Converse, Lee Lange, Roger Johnson, David Loose, Dick Gilmore, Bob Beadle, Conrad Severson. The Arrow track team, with only four holdovers from last year's team, was badly hampered by the bad weather and didn't compete in many meets. There was an informal dual meet which Pipestone won from Luverne but that was the only one before the District Meet. The Arrows placed third in the District with 41 points. John Schmitt chalked up the only first place for Pipestone in the high hurdles. The rest of the points came on third and second places. The team was made up mostly of juniors, sophomores, and a few freshmen. The only senior was Wallace Melby. Pipestone participated in the invitational meet at Marshall. Melby was the only one to place in more than one event. -Q N I, f 5 is M 'X ' fwg, .. . I 5' . X-'.a.3..itf5,z fl rr J-N. The Arrow baseball team, under Coach Harold Boelter, got off to a very slow start because of the bad weather. They played only two games prior to the district tournament, winning both from Edgerton by 3-l and 5-4 scores. Pipestone won the District 8 Championship by beating Luverne, Jasper, and Worthington. Converse pitched the final two games against Jasper and Worthington, and the scores were 8-3 and 7-3, respectively. ln the first game of the Region Two Tournament, Pipestone drew Man- kato. Two regulars, Don Peterson and Jim Treanor, didn't play in this game. Mankato had a fine pitcher, and he set the Arrows down without a hit or run. The score was 5-O. Melby and Converse pitched for Pipestone. s 65 1 SR HIY ROW l Sfanly Meyer Lyle Schroeder Don Muller Duck De Toy ROW 2 Arlo Geary Duck Roesler Bob Buell Jlrn Treanor Eldon Haegle ROW 3 Bud Knutson Jack Dahl Harry Han son Roger Benlamln Geo ge Alton Darrell l-leesch JUNIOR HI Y ROW l Bob Dahl Darron Knowlton Lester Perry Loren Knrby Jlrn McDowall ROW 2 Ken Kronovefter Howard Wathen Curtis Roesler Jam l-laubrlch Rodney Haraldson Davld Cun nnngham ROW 3 Larry Dahl Ronnie Schmldt Gordon Cleaveland Larry Harmsen ROW 4 Bob Tate Harlen Clark Dale Hart ROW 5 Mr Barrel cw 66 an S. f TQPJQQSEZ L COMMEN CEMENT AWARDS l950 Danforth Awards D A R Medal Josten Citizenship Activity Award Athletic Award American Legion American Legion Aux Maynard Winsel Earline Monke Paul Broclcberg VOCATIONAL CLASS La Vonne Reyne La Vonne Reyne Edna Jacobson John De Witte Jack Keers Barbara Litka The Vocational Class operates under the Cooperative Part-Time Train- ing Program which receives support frorn State and Federal Funds.
