Our New Principal ■ — Robert -«ieM»n -v) t- y ;siy-- j ' J;i Dedication On behalf of the entire student body at Pioneer, the Annual Staff takes great pride in dedicating the 1980 TORCH to a man whose personal interest in kids has given our cam- pus an alive, new feeling. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he moved with his family to Tucson and attended high school there. He graduated from the Univer- sity of Arizona with a BA in Biology. Then it was on to UCLA and USC for his graduate work. After attaining his Masters degree at Long Beach State, he came to Whittier in 1954, where he taught 8th grade at South Whittier Jr. High. When Sierra opened in 1957, he went there and began to teach science. He became department chairperson and later, curricu- lum coordinator. Apparently enjoying the job of curriculum coordinator, he then became Assistant Principal of Curriculum at Monte Vista. After holding this job for several years, he then moved back to Sierra and became the Principal for four years, until its closing in 1 979. As busy as this man has been, he had time to raise a wonderful family. His family includes a married daughter, who is a teacher; twin sons, one a business major, the other a speech pathology audiology major; and another daughter, who is a freshman at Cal-State Fullerton. Ever since he stepped foot on Pioneer ' s campus to be our new Principal, everyone and everything on it seems to have a renewed and upbeat feeling. The kids love him because he takes the time to get to know each of them personally. The faculty enjoys him because of the jokes he tells them during the early-morning faculty meetings. For bringing all the newness, warmth and love to our campus and for being a caring and understanding man, the 1980 TORCH is dedicated to . . . Robert L. Eicholtz
