' h Duo Dedication The other special person who the 1978 TORCH is dedicated to is also a person who loves to work with kids. She was born and raised in Whittier. She attended Hoover Elementary, Dexter Junior High, and graduated from Whittier High School. After high school she lived in Spain at age 18. She taught Drama at Rio Hondo College and was also a student there and at Cal Stale Fullerton. Her major in college was Drama. She has obtained throughout the years a Standard Teaching Credential, a Community College Credential in Theatre, a BA in Drama, and a Master ' s in Theatre. Her hobbies are teaching drama, collecting boxes (which are on display in her living room), and taking care of the fish that live in her backyard pond. As of right now, she is our one and only, fantastic drama teacher. She loves teaching kids and says it feels good in her heart. She loves her students and she feels as though they were her own. She is very proud of her students, especially when they do well. We have one of the biggest drama departments at Pioneer and it ' s all because of her and her power to get these kids going. She had a chance once to be an actress but she turned it down. She wanted to stay here at Pioneer and teach Theatre Arts; that ' s one thing a lot of people might not do. This is why we dedicate the 1978 TORCH to . . . CAROLYN GILWEIT

PiHil978. . . We had two special people in mind for the 1978 TORCH dedication. The first person is a man who has a great love for kids. He was born at the Murphy Memorial Hospital in Whittier, California on February 23, 1950. He graduated from Rosemead High School and went on to Rio Hondo College to receive his AA. After Rio Hondo College he attended Cal State Los Angeles and worked hard to achieve his BA. At the present time he is taking an Economics course at Cal State Los Angeles. He is the Community School Coordinator. Through his work he is trying to better the relationships between the teachers and the students while working with the community. He is interested in the Real Estate field and would someday like to go into business for himself. In his spare time he enjoys snow skiing, water skiing, tennis, and golf. He likes to watch football, baseball, and basketball. He is involved with little kids, as he likes to form little league teams. And when he ' s not busy with these activities, he enjoys spending his time with his wife Jeanette and his son Michael. For the 3 years that he has been at Pioneer, he feels that Pioneer has really changed. We are getting bigger and better and the students are more go oriented. He really loves working with kids and especially the kids at Pioneer. For his great love and concern for the students at Pioneer, the Annual Staff takes pride in dedicating the 1978 TORCH to . . . JOHNMACIAS to ' 4 V h
