Dedication As our seventh Pioneer school year draws to a close, the Annual Staff, on behalf of the Pioneer High School student tody, wishes to dedicate the 1966 TORCH to a man who has been an integral part of Pioneer since its beginning. There are few school traditions, regulations, or activities that have not in some manner been influenced, guided or directed by his enthusiasm, patience and sincere interest. He was born in Alameda, California, but spent most of his early life in Stockton where he graduated from College of the Pacific. His main interest as a young man was baseball and he worked out with several major league teams. He later played professional baseball in the California League for two seasons. He taught high school in Linden, California for two years and served for two years as a lieutenant in the Medi- cal Reserve Corps. In 1955 he came to Whittler and taught history and English, and coached basketball and baseball at Whittier High. He spent two years teaching at Sierra High and trans- ferred to Pioneer when it opened in 1959. Since that time he has played a vital role in making Pioneer the outstanding school that it is today. He now lives in Whittier with his wife, Helen, and their children, Lee Ann aged ten, Charles aged eight, and Mark aged four and a half. It is with deep appreciation and admiration that we respectfully dedicate the 1966 TORCH to Pioneer ' s Assistant Principal, Business and Activities, Mr. Jerry Haines Mr. Haines, when he played professional baseball. 6» 5Ji«l 9 €l?S lif ■• .. -- - .
