DEDICATICN In Spain the word is GRACIAS, in France, MERClp in Germany DANKE SCHON, and in Sweden, TACK. There are many ways of saying thanks. ln this dedication, the Torch Staff says a special thanks to a very special person. We take this opportunity to show our gratitude for many, many hours of unselfish service to the students of Pioneer High School. The man to whom we cledicate this book is a man who has worked for us and with us from the time the idea of Pioneer High was first conceived until now, and who has helped Pioneer to grow in accomplishments and reputation. We are proud of our school, and especially proud of those men who have made us what we are. High on the list of men responsible for the heights we have attained is this man. He has guided our footsteps down the path to greatness. ln 1914, two thing happened: World War I began and a couple in Escondido, California gave birth to twin sons. Each of these events has changed our lives in some way. The twin that we know began his education in Brea, California. He went to Jefferson High in Los Angeles, and from there went on to Fullerton Junior College and Compton Junior College. He then attended the University of Southern California, where he earned his Masters' Degree in Speech. He began his teaching career in 1940 in Turlock, California. He taught at Turlock for two years, and it was there where he was married in 1941. He then moved to Ventura, where he taught for four years. His life has been one of many facets. After spending four years in Ventura, he retired from teaching temporarily, and went into the appliance business. He returned to teaching and taught for four years in Plancentia, California. In 1951, he came to the Whittier Union High School District, and taught at Whittier High. He has taught many subiects - almost everything but math and science. He came to Pioneer when it opened in 1959, and has been an active member of the Pioneer faculty ever since. He now resides in Whittier with his wife, Betty. He has two children: Marcia, 19, and Don, 22. He served as our Assistant in charge of Student Activities from 1959 until 1964, and now serves as Curriculum Coordinator. ln February, 1954, he received a life membership in the PTA, in recognition of his help to the students of Pioneer High School, above and beyond the call of duty. He was one of the first ten faculty members to ioin the Pioneer staff. While he was a full- time teacher at Whittier High, he met with the Provisional Council to help establish the traditions and policies which made it possible for Pioneer to open successfully. Throughout the years, his belief in the ability of students to accept responsibility has never failed. His mark is on all the Titan activity programs. He has opened doors to the future for many of us. And so we say thanks to a man who has braved the dust and dirt, and built with us, a school that we can be proud of, a man who has helped us to find the path of success. His name has become synonymous with tradition. ln his own very quiet way, he has made it possible for Pioneer to have the tremendous activity program we now enjoy. lt is with pride and a deep sense of gratefulness that we dedicate the 1965 Torch to MR. HARRY EDDY
