Goin Back I think I'm goin back To the things I learned so well in my youth I think I'm returning to those days When I was young enough to know the truth Now there are no games to only pass the time. No more electric trains, No more trees to climb. But thinking young, and growing old is no sin And I can't play the game of Life to win. lean recall the time When I wasn't ashamed to reach out to a friend Now I think I've got a lot more than Just my toys to lend. Now there's more to do than Watch my sail boat glide. But everyday can be a magic carpet ride, 'Cause I can play hide and seek with my fears. And live my days instead of counting my years. I can recall the time When I wasn't ashamed to reach out to a friend Now I think I've got a lot more Than just my toys to lend. Let everyone debate the true reality. I'd rather see the world the way it used to be. A little bit of courage is all we lack. So catch me if you can. I'm goin back. Gerry Goff in and Carole King

A Message From The Editor Quite often a yearbook can serve as a means of going back to the less complicated times of one's youth. Another year has passed, a space of time filled with months of hard work, accomplishments, new friendships, joys, sorrows . . . a year to look back on with fond memories. It has been said that yesterday is but today’s memory and tomorrow is today's dream. This year's memories and tomorrows dreams have been, we sincerely hope, preserved to some extent for you in the publication of this book. We, of the Chieftain Staff, look back on the passage of this year with emotions of hopefulness, sorrow, and thanksgiving. Hopeful that we have provided through the publication of THE CHIEFTAIN instant memories of a year gone by, sad in that another year filled with meeting deadlines, preparing copy and planning layouts has passed, and thankful to all those who have contributed to make the dream of this, the 1973-74 CHIEFTAIN, become a reality. Our thanks go out to the faculty and administration who have extended their help and cooperation whenever needed, to the student body of Pinson Valley High School and Middle School for their continued support, to Waldrup Studio and Taylor Publishing Company for their help and encouragement. We would also like to extend a special thanks to our sponsor, Mrs. Linda Hill, whose leadership, encouragement, and skills have guided us through the production of this book.
