Mrs. Anna Conaway --- Senior Sponsor Class Hi tory One bright morning in September in l9h3 twelve little boys and girls boarded the school bus to attend their first day of school. Three of these, Sue Copenhaver, Sue Witt, and Christine Hiland, stuck together all twelve years. Each year new students were welcomed and others moved away. Then be- fore you know it they were freshmen. There were eleven eagar kids initiated in 1951. During the Sophmore year things began to buzz, The nine students, with their sponsor, Mrs. Conaway entertained the entire high school at a skating party and sponsored several successful projects. As Juniors, the twelve happy students staged a play, sold candy, held a carnival, and with the Senior's financed and made a trip to Washington D. C. in March of 'Sh. Now as Seniors we look back on the happy times we shared and regret that we will soon be setting out in different directions. So much for the senti- mental part, here we are eleven young adults busy with the usual Senior activites. The officers: Howard Bennington, President, Sue Witt, V1ce-Presi- dent, Sue Copenhaver, Treasurer, and Christine Hiland, Secretary, worked with the rest of the class, David Dodson, June Brose, Jim Jarvis, Tom Giles, Bob Jarvis, Jerry Acton, and Edna Wethington in publishing an annual and a schod. paper. They also planned a trip with the Juniors and visited points of interest on a 3-day visit to Chicago. Now we close the year with commencement and baccalaureate. The many happy memories we shared will never be forgotten by any of us, and with gratitude and thanks we say good-bye to Mrs. Conaway, our faithfull sponsor for four years, and the rest of the faculty and friends we leave at Pinnell, Class Poem Herevs the Class of '55, What they do, and how they thrive. Attain ent of success makes one happy, but the state of being happy is a way of thinking stimulated by the success. The same condition or circumstance may provoke entirely different thoughts in two people, because of the difference in their past experience or because of their control or lack of control of their thinking. WTwo men looked out from between the bars. One saw the earth the other saw stars,U and nThe mind can make a hell of heaven or a heaven of hell' are quotations from great minds of the past, which I remember from my high school days. They have been invaluable in helping me to unsnarl my thinking, and have therefore contributed much to my peace of mind. Confusion is a state of being unable to think things through without having conflicting thoughts interfere. There are people who have the ability to think things through to completion, and we have access to their thinking by reading their literary works. The hu ble philosophy of will Rogers, and even John Turn1pseed,can set one straight in 'down to earth! thinking that makes for happiness. Religion is a way of thinking. Religion is to a man's life what salt is to his food. An attitude is a way of thinking. Good attitudes should be the product of our years in school. He have the power to control our thinking. Our ex- perience in school, both social and scholastic, prepares us to direct our thinking and supplies us with a rich store of memories upon which our minds can feast in later years. , . A sense of humor is a way of thinking, and is an excellent means in dis- arming one's severest critic. Philosophy is a way of thinking. The following is from Shakespeare: 'To thine own self be true, and as followeth the day the night, thou cans't notthen be false to any man.n 22 Harold J. To keep this place in honor to Thy name, And lift my spire to things that men hold dear, May reverence abide, and contrite hearts Kneel at my alters and Thy blood atoneg May mercy light the candles at this shrine, And justice fill the chalice at Thy throne. Help those, Dear Lord, who gather strength in me, To bear forth truth unto a better dayg As golden sunlight falls through colored panes, May loving kindness shine through those who pray. Keep wide my doors that all who enter in, May know that worship leaves no room for sin! by Fleta Bruer Gonso 'l The Sunshine Society Creed With love in my heart, forgetting self, and with charity for all, 1 will make tm ob- ject of my life helpfulness and kindness to others. I shall try to fit myself to give intelligent service in making my community a safer and more beautiful place in which to live. Thus will my own life become rich and complete. I-II-Y There are in the United States over nine thousand Hi-Y Clubs with a total membership of more than 350,000 boys and girls. There are 400 Hi-Y Clubs and Tri-Hi-Y Clubs in Indiana with an enrollment of 12,000 youth. These clubs take as their purpose the pledge to create, maintain and extend throughout the school and community, high standards of Christian character. They build their program on a four-square platform of Clean speech, Clean sport, Clean living, and clean scholarship. The Hi-Y emblem is composed of the red triangle which is emblematic of the unity of spirit, mind and body--the White Cross, the emblem of supreme sacrifice standing for the light and purity of the life of Jesus, which is the central theme of the Hi-Y movement. The principles of Hi-Y through its purpose and platform, are expressive of the Master's way of living. The Hi-Y movement has chosen Christ as its leader, and measures its service by His ideals.
