HIS TOR Y This year the History department has continued its tradition of educating students in the various areas of history as well as in the fundamentals of comprehension. The department believes that history is a systematic rendition of the past which enables students to study and to make anahftical judgements as to causes and effects. This year the number of course available to Sophomores was increased, enabling them to study more areas of History. The goal of the department is to teach students to read, write, and do research. l. LANGUAGE Through the use of carefully selected texts and materials, the Foreign Language program tries to enhance all four skills of language learning: listen- ing comprehension, speaking, reading, and writ- ing. Another of the department's objectives is to expose students to the cultures of specific coun- tries. This is acheived by the use of video-tapes purchased with a grant from the Dodge Founda- tion. The Rider College competition offers stu- dents the opportunity to exercise their knowl- edge of language. The results of the illustrate the success of the department. l. Jane S.
