In appreciation of his untiring work for the benefit ot Pingry School, of his devotion to his students, and, in general, of his sincerity and friendly manner towards students and faculty alike, this, the 1960 Blue Book, is dedicated to Mr. Theodore L. Mayhew. Due to his experience and skill in foreign tongues Mr Mayhew has served as Head of the Modern Lan guages Department for many years His easy going but effective style of teaching has inspired most of his stu dents to continue their language studies in college s industry and technique coupled with a good Boston sense of humor have made his courses both popular and valuable Because of Mr Mayhews sincere love for Germany and her people his German classes are en livened by his stories of his travels in Europe and occasionally by a letter from one of his many German acquaintances During the school year Mr Mayhew obtains a great many films about Germany to show at the weekly German Club meetings every fall come the familiar announcements of Emil und die Detektlve However Mr Mayhews work is not over after the last class As Publicity Director tor Plngry he is responsi ble for reporting any important school news to the news papers in the vicinity In addition to this task he is editor of the Plngry Review the alumni news magazine For this he sometimes works late into the night preparing copy tor the next edition All in all Mr Mayhew capably does the work of three men and we take great pride in dedicating our year book to him uw T' I , . . . . 1 Hi , , , . FRANCE Union College B.S.y Harvard Appointed 1924 Assistant to the Headmaster Head of English Department, English Guidance Committee, Chairman of General Welfare Committee, Advisor to Sixth Form, Advisor to Handbook, Advisor to Chess Club, Advisor to Upper School Music Club, Advisor to Blue Key, Cum Laude Society. Mr E Laurence Springer remains today as youthful and modern in his ideas as he was when he first came to Pingry in 1936 With Mr Springer at the helm Pingry has risen from a small preparatory school with limited facilities to a new well equipped, and na tionally recognized school whose graduates can be found un many of America s top colleges Our Headmaster however is more than lust a figurehead or a fund raiser Rather he is a warm and personable individual who takes a great personal interest in the boys. Although his is a very busy day Mr. Springer is always willing to take a few minutes to speak with a boy or master should a problem arise. This constant effort on behalf of our Head- master has won unending admiration for him among all members of the Pingry family. As with everything at Pingry, Mr. Springer is con- stantly improving, not only himself but his school as well. Evidence of this is the honorary degree of Doc- tor of Letters awarded him by Princeton University and the construction of a new science wing for the school. Certainly Mr. Springer symbolizes Pingry and the growth of its students. He has been our guiding light throughout our careers at Pingry.
