A COMICAL CAT named Garfield was one of the most popular fads and appeared on everything from oosters to newspaper cartoons. The furry, stuffed animals lined the shelves of many department stores. EVEN BASIC PUZZLES came into the fad scene. The Rubik's Cube, a fad game in which the object was to match colored squares, came on key chains and necklaces and was o challenge most peo- ple repeatedly attempted.
