Although comparatively new to our High, he has rendered the entirety of his time and efforts to such organ- iaztions as the Senior Class, the An- nual Staff, the Paper Staff, and many others. His services to the Annual Staff alone have been invaluable in the production of this yearbook. Any success many of us may enjoy can be largely attributed to his ceaseless attentions. Thus it is with sincere gratitude and pleasure that we submit this Annual to the students in honor of Mr. George Fenton Jr. Fenton dl MR. BOYD FONNESBECK Principal and Superintendant 10 'IO MY SCHOOL By Paul Workman The whirring wheels and turning lathes and sounds of busy shop, The mathematics period which seemed to never stop, The drawing boards and pens and ink and things that teachers say, Along with themes and battered books, are things of Yesterday. If there we learned to seek to know, if facts there were to find, And when opinions must be used to keep an open mind, To feel respect, deep and sincere, for those we differ from, And do each day full patiently, the work we've entered on-- Well, then, old school, we'll try to fill the page we have to write With better record every day, so when at last at night We will have done some of those things you tell us that we can, Twill make you proud to hear men say, There goes a self-made man. Sfuclenf Council Am! fudenf Body Qgqcers The purpose of the student council is not merely to get things done, such as to prevent running the corridors, to keep the shrubbery from being trampled or to restore lost note- books. The purpose also is to teach students self-control, self-government, and democratic ways of living. Students form their character through the choice they make, the actions that they take, and the responsibilities that they accept. Self-government gives students practice in making and carrying out their own laws. Experience in self-government prepares the stu- dents to take an active and intelligent part, as adults, in democratic government in the com- munity, state, and nation. Student government also provides valuable experience in conducting meetings, and in debate and parliamentary procedure. Their outstanding activities consisted of such things as, one of the few booths in the Carnival to realize a profit, a Donkey Basketball Game and a Spaghetti Feed, all netting considerable profit, and numerous other significant functions. Plagued by injuries to key personnel, they defeated Richland 35 to 20, while losing seven others by scores ranging from a tough 7 to 6 loss to Baker J. V., to a 53 to 14 defeat at the hands of Class A-2 Enterprise. In spite of the string of discouraging de- feats the boys tried hard, and picked up valuable experience for future years.
