But for the time being let's stay down to earth. Opportunity is as large as the Heavens if you are in a position to accept the opportunities which corne your way. You Q, are completing a big step in your preparation, but if - your education is not finished. ,Life is a constant edu- cation, either direct or indirect. Many of you should go on to school to prepare yourselves for greater op- portunities. Inefficiency through lack of education and preparation has no place in our world today. Space Patrol OFFICERS President ------ Edmon Lampson Vice President - - Robert Bentley Secretary - - Althea Day Treasurer ------ Helen Sweeney The purpose of the Student Council is to keep all the planets and satel- lites in their proper orbits. They have done this quite well even though they had to enact an enforcement group of student monitors of the Space Patrol In addition to this they made plans to sponsor a circus and to purchase a camera for the school. Their special type of inter-planetary government has been extremely suc- cessful and we are sure that under the able guidance of Mr. Earle, they will keep up the good work for many years to come. 1 ' ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVES President ---- Thomas Fox Secretary ---- Glenn Scott Treasurer - - - Robert Killock Advisors - - Miss Malis, Mr. Gorton ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION- SEATED: Lett to Right-R. Inter-Planetary Mediators LEFT TO RIGHT-Mrs. Darling, Mr. Rundell, Dr. Dunfield, Superintendent Anderson, Mr. Marquart, Mrs. Tingue, Mr. Zollinger, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Cooper, Mr. Curtis was the Moderator. A fine group in our planetary public relations department is the P. T. A. organization. Besides acting as a tie between parents and teachers, the group, under the leadership oi Mrs. Lillian Allen, has sponsored several worthwhile projects. This year has seen the in- novation of a much needed and greatly appreciated costume room. Several fathers donat- ed their services to build the room in the attic ot the Cherry Creek building and the mothers have sorted over and repaired the costumes which were already in the schools and have made new ones for use in Assembly programs and Plays. To finance the project, the com- mittee has sponsored the sale of Mrs. Snyder's candies. Two quilts are being made, with names embroidered on them at the price of twenty cents per person and this money will go into the general P. T. A. treasury. When finished, the quilts will be donated for use in the health rooms at Cherry Creek and South Dayton. At our March meeting at Cherry Creek, the Grade teachers had a splendid exhibit oi their work. There was also a most interesting panel discussion with Mr. Donald Curtis act- ing as moderator. In conjunction with the topic Future Foundations , the pros and cons oi a new school building were discussed. This is only one ofthe enjoyable meetings we have had this year. Senior Flight Log FRESHMEN: ln September of 1950 the South Dayton class was joined by the one from Cherry Creek. At first this union was like the collision of two heavenly bodies, but most of the problems were ironed out and our journey began. To help lay a foundation for our treasury we established a coat check-room at the home basketball games. SOPHOMORES: During this year we had a dance, which proved to be a planet-shaking suc- cess. We also continued our check-room, held a tag day and sold newspaper subscrip- tions. IUNIORS: Card sales, our universally-famous play and several dances were our main fund- raising projects during this year. We had by now begun to look forward to the coming year with a mingled feeling of anticipation and consternation. SENIORS: This year we suddenly found ourselves the center of the school just as the sun is the center of the universe. Our activities included dances, our Senior Play, maga- zine sales, and our carnival. During these four years we have been travelling toward a diploma which has seemed, at times, as distant as the moon. During the journey our fortunes have risen and fallen like currents of air. Our treasury has, at times, soared among the clouds, and, at times, plum- meted to earth with a resounding thud. Our last major activity was our Senior trip, when we went rocketing away to Washington. Now we are ready to take off again, each on our own separate flight, but still bound together by the common joys and sorrows which we have shared. Mount, I. Berg, D. Butcher. This year, which was our third football season, started off with full rocket power, leav- ing both Ripley and -Cassadaga Valley in our trail. An upset, losing to Clymer by three points, set us back some, but a quick repair after our breakdown sent us ahead of Brocton and Porestville. We were then rocket to rocket with Sherman for first place, but the crew seemed to fall apart and even lim Berg, our runaway halfback, couldn't help. Let's hope to be in the rocket finals next year but coach Gorton will have a tough job as he is losing, lim Berg, Rich Bradnick, Tom Fox, Bill Fuller and Ray Richter, all lettermen. Here's good luck, lack Gorton. Milliman, E, Lampson, R. Bentley, M, Marvin, R. Hackett, Mr. Dorman. This year we did quite well considering the in- experience of our team. Although our interscholastic work didn't show up much, we did quite a bit of planetary trotting. We ran in the sectionals at Hol- land, N. Y., competing with about 200 athletes. Ed Lampson placed 25th and Lyle Millirnan, 28th. We are hoping that under Coach Dorman we will build up both Cross Country and Track to its rightful place of prestige. 4, THE STARS! KNEELING: Left to Right-I. Bentham CManagerl, R. Barnes, R. Bradnick, I. Berg, F. Weaver, E. Lampsan, N. Merrill. STANDING: Left to Right---R. Richter, R. Troutman, T. Dorman, R. Green, R. Madison, C. Mount, Coach I. Gorton- The brightest Stars in all the heavens this year were the Pine Valley Panthers. Aided by a new type of rocket named lim Berg who set a high score record for the Pine Valley court of 41 points and during the Bi-County playoff, set the record for the Dunkirk court with 44 points, they have come through with flying colors. Everyone has helped by firing up their rockets and coming to town for the games and none of this support has gone to waste as our 2l win-no loss record indicates. This is the first time that Pine Valley has won the Section VI, Class B championship, so we feel that it is an added honor. Coach and Chief engineer of these boys was Iack Gorton. He's done a fine job and here's hoping that with four out of the first six lettermen returning, he'll be able to do the same again next year. Although he is losing Berg, Troutman, Lampson, Bradnick, Richter, and Madi- son, he'll still have big Bob Green who has a 17 point per game record. The chances are good that he may see Memorial Auditorium again. Let's hope so. Planetary Songsters Along with tremendous advancements which our school has made in other fields, our ever expanding chorus has raised our cultural interests to new heights. This has been pos- sible because of a masculine interest in singing. Our activities for the year included spring and fall concerts, Christmas and Easter pro- grams, the All State at Randolph, and the Easter Music Educators' Conference at Kleinharfs Music Hall, Buffalo. Here Norm Parks represented our group in the All State High School Choir of 200 selected voices. All the weavings of our rocket in various activities have been ably guided by our ex- perienced pilot Mrs. Wells, even through the flak caused by the rabble-rousers. The Iunior Planetary songsters and the Grade Chorus were very active this year also and give much promise for the future. I UNIOR HIGH CHORUS- FIRST ROW: Left to Right-S. Paine, D. Merrill, P. Both groups have pen pals in other planets and the 8th Graders have been busy writing a constitution tor their club.
