Baaacfafg' ' The school year 1950-51 has been a busy year for the Board of Education in View of Work toward further progress in the development of the central school system. Changes of residence, death of one member and job changes have created several personnel changes in the Board during the year. The Board lost one of its rnost esteemed members upon the death of Wallace R. Newcomb, who gave freely of his time, knowledge and wisdom in aid- ing the central school district. Pine Valley Central is a better school today because of the effort and interest put forth by Mr. Newcomb. He was a friend of education. What has been accomplished is hard to put down in a limited space. lt may be sum- med up that effort has been made to improve standards of education and the facilities helping provide that education. Buildings have been put in better repair: more transportation is provided: two teachers have been added to the faculty: a broader adult education pro- gram is operating: a new salary schedule for teachers has been put in operation: additional sports activity by way of football has been added: more teaching and operational equip- ment has been purchased: the safety conditions of the building have been studied and corrections started: seven committees of lay persons for a new building program have been organized and are working on plans for a new building. These are but a few of the nu- merous activities of the board. Our hats are off to these men who give so freely of their time that our school be a better school and we, the students, have more opportunities. E51 1 ll Carl W. Stamp Supervising Principal Carl I. Stowell Richard L. Earle Elementary Principal Assistant Principal To the Class of 1951, As this goes to press another chapter of your lives is being completed. A new chapter starts with commencement. How long and how good that book ot uncompleted chapters is depends on your choice of what you do next. No educated person doubts the value of edu- cation. What you have now Cannot be taken away from you and what education you get from now on will serve to make your lite even richer. You can be proud of your accomplish- ments during the years of your school days. I trust each of you avail yourselves of further opportunities ot education. Some ot you may go to work, others to the armed forces and others on to further training. Whatever you do keep your aims high and then keep on striving to achieve those aims. You, too, will be taking on new duties as adult citizens. Your right to vote, to participate in community functions, to be ot service to your community through your time, talents and money, are basic privileges and duties for you in a democracy like ours. Let's all give an extra push to our school, community and country by carrying out those duties. Come back and visit Pine Valley Central often. Best wishes to all. t fm WV? As freshmen we started our high school activities off with a bang. This was selling candy and having roller skating parties. In our sophomore year, the South Dayton tribe sponsored a dance called the Sophomore Hop . This same year the Cherry Creek gang put on their dance, Moonlight Serenade . The junior year found the tribe and gang, combined into one bunch at South Dayton. Our first activity was also our first business venture, namely, selling Christmas cards and stationery. In the spring of the year We presented our junior play, Seventeenth Summer that is remembered by every one. We sponsored two dances, a Saint Patricks Day Dance and a Valentine's Dance, both of which were very successful. We sailed. into our senior year with hopes so high the sky was the limit. The Football Dance was our first venture and a great success, it was. We next had a campaign to sell magazines, and this was not a flop by any means, as we greatly increased our bank roll. The climax was best of all as the losing team had to treat the winners at a party. We also had try-outs for our play The Campbells are Coming , that same evening. We'll never forget this play because in it we all had a chance to do What Come's Naturally . During the Christmas vacation we put on our Holiday Dance and soon afterward in the months to follow we sponsored a spaghetti dinner and a carnival. The Carnival with it's many attractions, was fun for all, even the seniors. Undoubtedly the greatest event was our trip to New York. What fun! We'll never forget it. The juniors and seniors had a formal ball in honor of us seniors. Surely was nice. Graduation! The final day and what is our future? May Doin' What Comes Naturally lead to success. t19l L. I. E. P. Through the co-operation ot the family and board ot education, we at Pine Valley have been able to attend many of the open house programs, hear a number of visiting professors and visit some of the nearby places of industry. Many thanks to those who made these pos- sible. On February 7, we held our own career day in order that We might acquaint ourselves with community vocational opportunities. Annoying maybe, but we have to keep in shape for our spring and fall concerts. Besides the two annual concerts, this year we had a Christmas party with the band and had charge of the Christmas assembly. We also plan e to go to Fredonia in the spring. Some of our members sang in the Holy Week assemblies and several of us went to Iamestown to sing in the All State Chorus. Some of our members attended All-State at Iamestown. We also played for the Christmas program, and we are planning to give another concert. We plan to go to Fredonia and come home with a pretty good rating. On an unexpected notice we played for the Cole Bros. Indoor Circus in March, which was fun. Trumpets: I. Greeley, D. Phillips, D. The club again purchased the Seventeen Magazine, which was enjoyed by all. Next year the club hopes to join the national organization of the F.H.A. At the end of the school term, something useful will be donated by the club to the Homemaking Department. Our motto that we all try to live up to is: Toward New Horizons. f 42 l Ill.. 4. 4. 14. Under our able president, we have really been going places this year. We made a trip to Alfred University for Career Day . We witnessed many fine demonstrations that held our interest constantly. Co-operating with F. H. A., we held a spring dance with the WHL Iam- boree. At the fair in county competition we placed third in the Dairy Iudging and second in the Winter Poultry Fair at Iamestown. This summer we are planning for a lake boat trip to Detroit, which every one of us is looking forward to. 5 1 Seated left to right: D. Phillips, R. Troutman, E. Lampson, C. Troutman, R. Crowell, R. Reorganization work was continued during the summer, while the process of Cataloging is a major project yet to be completed. A library club was organized this year with the following members: Nancy Ecker Geraldine Earle Ioanne Bentley Esther Balthaser Rosena Colbum Eva Shenberg Wilma Volk Frances Ingersoll Lois Ann Colson Nettie Mae Stabenau Onnalee Colander Azalia Marvin Meetings were held monthly and various projects added interest to regular library work. Book Week plans were the result of Library Club planning, as well as study, research, and correspondence with other schools in con- nection with community committees planning a new building. The varsity cheerleaders with their blue jeans cmd white sweat shirts, tried very hard to arouse the enthuisasm of the entire student body, since this was our first year of football. Sometimes they cheered at the wrong times, but that was to be expected, for they hardly knew what a touchdown was. The cheerleaders and student body were on the field rain or shine, cheering for the team, never giving up hope. The whistle blew- the team was in position-the crowd was tense-the kickoff was made and the game started. Our boys fought hard to hold back the opposing teams who were more experienced. Randall As the yearbook goes to press, we can merely look ahead and guess what is going to happen as tar as baseball is concerned. We have six letter men back with us, Smith, Larnpson, Butcher, Troutman, Howard and Wolf. This sounds like a good send-off for a successful season but in looking over the squad as a Whole, it is doubtful if such will be the case. Most oi the players are playing baseball for the iirst time and the lack of pitchers and practice time will necessarily hurt our chances for a league championship.
