: l Nawadf Dedioatw Called Mama Gene by many of her students, Ms. Imogene Penton puts in so many after-school hours working with the cheerleaders and pep squad mem- bers that the 78-79 Panther staff felt she well deserved being named dedicatee of this book. Ms. Penton has been the Pan- ther pep squad and cheerleader sponsor since she first began working at Pine Street in 1969. A native of Texarkana, Ms. Penton moved to Los Angeles, California when she was three years old. She then moved to St. Louis, Missouri when she was in the third grade and returned to Texar- kana when she was in the eighth grade. She remained in Texarkana until she fin- ished high school at the age of 16, but she left her home area to obtain a higher level of education. She received her bachelor of science degree from South- ern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illi- nois and earned her master of science degree from East Texas State University in Commerce. She taught high school classes from 1962 to 1969, at which time she started work at Pine Street. When Ms. Penton ends her day at school, she stays busy with church activi- ties. She is astewardess, a choir mem- ber, and Director of Christian Education at Hgpewell CME. ama Gene has one biological child: a daughter, Rhonda Yarber, who lives in Monterrey, California. However, to many PSJH Panthers, she will proba- bly continue to hand out motherly advice and assistance. 1. Ms. Imogene Penton our 78-79 Pan- ther dedicatee. 2.
