Class History It was timed back to the year of 1950, In September, when 29 preen freshmen entered through the doors of Backus High School. They were as follows: Ardlth Russell, Ryle Reinfield, Rodney Sycks, Richard Codner, Jo Ann Johnson, Clarence Howe, Kenneth Tisher, Charles Beals, Janice Vincent, Darrell Robldeaux, Rose Ann Lund, Larry chambers, Wilma Slltman, Billy Blake, Mariam Sawyer, C9rol Keller, Marlene Hart, Ronald Peterson, John Hovlend, Sharon Anderson, Dorothy Elbes, Lester Eylea, Richard Hines, Doris Sawyer, Larry Husmann, Shirley Codner, Mary Ann Kimball, Phyllis Hukrlede, We gained during the year, four more students, namely: Jonelle Ray, Donna and Dixie Brown and Charles Kllnert. I'm sure we all reme.mbgr one day in the lab, Dick brought a dead mouse 'and by accident he threw It in Phyllis' direction. Too bed she didn't like mice. Seems like the Vincent home is 8 pretty rood place to have a slumber party, especially wh n ll htbulbs dropoed, sleeping on the cold floor end even missing the bus and walking to school. Before we knew It we we e sophomores end this was when Hackensack lnvaaea Backus end it has never been the same since Gene Dembouski, Ronald Classmen, Katherine Cuderkerk, and Judith Drlnkall moved In. This was the year Carol, Marlene, Wilma, and Janice drew up e man-hating compact. It sure reemed to cause alot cf rclt nent. -- Then our Junior year rolled around. We have done alot of complaining but we have had loads of fur.. There A Ut% are somethings we will rever forget such as the time WA Y d jrlng the presentation of o ir class olay Hobgoblin 4 House when everybody forrot their lines for five minutes end thanks to.timer, the thunder and lightning filled In for cur nl-ta es. By the way, do any of you remember the time when Miss Anderson come storming down the aisle and slugged Ronny G. over the head with a aletl'nery. There's more than one w y to oound English Into ? students head. Another main event was our Junior-Senior Banquet when one of our »lck thinking waiters dropped a biscuit and kicked it under the table before It hit the floor. . . . , One day Carol and Marlene skipped school for the afternoon Tnd hat co you know????????? They trot Caught. But onethlng, they both learned to drive. Of all the kids we have had In our class there are 22 o' us left to lnl h out our remaining year of .cchool. Cne thing we did wrs on Cct-ober 26, four cars piled with kids took off for Brainerd to have Senior pictures taken. It was Just our.luck to have It rain all morning. That also was the day Gene beat Chuck In a fast game of ping-pong. a •Out of the 22, there are seven of us who endured tills place for 12 long years, nsmely: Rodney, WUxa, Shirley, Dick C. Sharon Mariam and Mary Ann. Cn June 2, 1955 3S the big night we received our much deserved diplomas.

CLASS POEM The class of '55 are we» We re all as smart as we can be. The Education we've obtained Has caused the teachers so much pain. Now, before they turn us loose The whole senior class we'll introduce. A basketball player is Hod, His baskets are very often. But when it comes to referees He'd rather see them in a coffin. Wilma is a Jolly gal, A diamond she is snorting. And when Don Witt comes on the scene, She's sure to go out courting. Butch is Jolly and liked by all, He's president of our class. And when he gets in his old flivver, He's the envy of every lass. Carol is our beauty queen, She is tall and v rv neat. A certain lad from Pine River, Thinks she can't be beat. Kenny's the chemistry lad in our class, An engineer he should be. For his marks ere always high, And a good future he can see. Next, meet Marlene, She is always on the Job. And we all know She can't get along without Bob. Three cheers for Jo , She's sweet 8nd she's gay. He's a real lucky fellow Who gets Mss Jonelle Pay. Ronald has a gift of gab, A teacher he should be. But when it comes to Jonelle, Someday he'll be on bended knee. Mary Ann is a redhead, Her eyes are very blue. And every where Gene is, Mary Ann is there too. And here's another guy, They call him Fete for short. He's pretty good lr. everything, But basketball is his snort. Here comes Shirley down the hall, Her smile is always gay. She is the kind of girl You like to see every day.
