R. KEEFER The graduating class of 1959 is proud to dedicate the Ram- bler to our principal, Mr. A. R. Keefer. It has been because of his high ideals and constant devotion to his work that Richland High School has made so many achievements in its first three years. Mr. Keefer was born in Connellsville and attended Connells- ville High School. He was graduated from California State Teacher's College. He has done graduate work at George Washington University, Washington, D.C. and at the Uni- versity ot Pittsburgh, where he is presently working towards his doctorate. He was principal of Mt. Pleasant elementary school and at Park Terrace in North Versailles Township be- fore coming to Richland in 1956. Mr. Keefer will be remembered by the class of 1959 as the man who made Richland High the school of which we are proud to be graduates. 6 -'-- unnn-r-'- Wffffzmfffff wfwfwfmww jwwhzy Seniors Class Officers Y 1959 President College Preparatory 69-K3 Vice president College Preparatory MOMENTS TO REMEMBER . . . 1956-1957 This was our year of firsts: first year in sf if Ek, our new high school, first sophomore class in the school's historyg first football game Tleasuref fa victoryllp first formal dances. We made College preparatory many new friends and our loyalty to Rich- land grew. , gf Q MOMENTS TO REMEMBER . . . 1957-1958 E 2 L This was our year to raise money for the first Junior- Secrelary Senior Prom. The Thespian Society was chartered as a na- C0mme ClUl tional troupe. We made up the greater part of the casts of The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker and The Crucible. We helped organize and publish The Green and White. Nine of our girls and six of our boys were elected to the May Court. Athletics were in full swing. Class officers: Ray Rose, president: Roberta Easter, vice president, Lenore Ferguson, secretary, Ted Gilbert, treasurer. MOMENTS TO REMEMBER . . . 1958-1959 Here we were, Seniors at last! We elected our yearbook staff to take charge of publishing The Ram- bler. We entered into all of the school's activities: sports, plays, clubs, dances. We elected officers for our Senior year. Our advisors were Miss Harbison and Mr. Dilts. For our class motto we chose, Where he succeeds, the merit's all his own. For our class flower we selected the white rose, for class colors, white and gold. But our thoughts turned mainly to graduation and what would come after. You have been truly an outstanding group of pioneers in helping to develop an excellent educational program at Richland. Many educators point to Richland High as a school that has moved to the forefront in educational circles in a very short period of years. Your graduating class has many talented and versatile students both in the academic and extra-curricular fields and many of you will move on to great accomplishments in the future. You are our product, and our best wishes and prayers for your success go with you. Your success will be our success, and we will follow your progress closely over the next five years. In its third year of activity, the Richland High School Band and Maiorettes distinguished themselves as one of the outstanding musical organizations among Allegheny County schools. During the football season the band and major- ettes contributed to half-time entertainment with their snappy marching and fine playing. The band also sent representatives to both district and state band festivals, won a trophy at the Penn Hills Band Festival in October, and, together with the Mixed Chorus, presented a spring concert. 70 Band First row: M.
