Walter Henry Nelson DEDICATION We leave this year to move on towards the next and most important phase of our lives. We must not only plan our own futures, but will soon have to give ourchildren the knowledge to better their lives. Our parents have created both problems and pro- gress for us. However, by their mistakes and advice, they have left within our reach the tools we need to make our future a profitable one. We therefore dedicate this year- book to our parents. You have gone much beyond the duties of a teacher and we will always remember you as a friend. 6 SPECIAL THANKS To Mr. Scott and Mr. Alonge The Staff of 72 would like to take this opportunity to thank you both for the time you have put forth to make our yearbook possible. The Haldane team proved too much for Pine Plains as Haldane won 20-0. This was the first shut-out for the Bombers in 11 games. On the following Saturday Pine Plains played at home against Millbrook. The Bombers were again beaten by a score if 19-6. The Bombers now travelled to Dover. The team turned out its best effort of the season winning 36-0. Pine Plains hosted Philip Schuyler of Albany on the following weekend. The Schuyler team left town with a 14-6 win to remain unbeaten. In the final game of the season the Bombers beat Pawling 26-6, to end up with a 4-3record. For their outstanding talent. Ken Dykeman and Dale Paterson were chosen to the All-League team. In the past four years the Bombers have compiled a 23-6-1 record. 94 Varsity Football Team FIRST ROW: J. Jackson, D. Fletcher, M. Burdick, C. Hicks, T. Bryant, D. Weaver, J. Donnelly, K. Stippa, S. Flinn, Coach Kohut. With Many Varsity Football players graduating this year, the hopes of the future team fall on the Junior High team. This year’s team consisted of 35 boys who compiled a 2-3 record. The Junior Bombers beat Pawling and Dover but lost to Mill- brook twice and Pawling once. The Junior High coaches this year were Coach Kohut and Coach O’Neill. Both Coaches will agree that individual imporvements were great during the season. 97 Football Cheerleaders 98 Cross Country Although Cross Country is the second sport of the fall sports season, it is not necessarily the easiest. This year's team consisted of a nine man Varsity squad and a twelve man Junior High Squad. The Varsity squad com- piled a 3 -3 record while the Junior High squad had a 1-3 record. But the team's outstanding effort came in the DCSL meet where the Varsity took second place and the Junior High took first place in their respective divisions. Many members of the team pride themselves in earning a 250 patch” for running at least 250 miles during the season. Many also participated in a 20 mile run from the school to the Kingston Bridge. Varsity Basketball 1971-72 As in Football, the Bombers were hoping for a season as successful as the previous one. The Bombers finished second in the league last year with a 14-3 record. The team did not do as well as hoped, ending in 6th place in the league with a 7-11 record. Despite the record, it was an exciting season as six games were decided by five or less points. An old rivalry with Red Hook was kept alive with team beating the other once. Millbrook won the league championship after two wins over the Bombers. The Bombers are losing three ballplayers through graduation. Mark Francis, Jim Valentine, and Scott Chase are the team's seniors. Francis and Valentine were the team's leading scorers and rebounders. The season was filled with many exciting games with the Bombers winning by as few as three points in some games. In other games the team would win or lose by twenty points. Many of the ballplayers picked up valuable play- ing experience which will help them as they move up to the varsity next year. The team had many fine shooters and re- bounders. Flip Wright was the team's leading scorer and playmaker. Jim O'- Sullivan and Mike McCauley were the leading rebounders. Tom Spencer Flip Wright David Thorpe Michael McCauley Ken Stippa Robert Jacovino Steve Steutzle Jeff Adams Kevin Dier Robert Cahill Tom Bryant 104 Wrestling 1972 The Varsity wrestling did not have as much success as was hoped for this sea- son, but there were many bright spots in the program. The Bombers finished with a 6-7 record. One of the more successful sports in the season was the Maple Hills Christmas Tournament. In this trounament the Bombers took second place, losing first place by only three points. Jim Hicks, Ed Ehler, and Dale Paterson won the titles for their respective weight classes. The Team took fifth place in the D.C.S.L. match. Dale Paterson again won the title in the heavyweight class. Jim Hicks took second place in the 145 lb. class. With these standings the two advanced to the Divisionals. Again Paterson took the title and Hicks held second. The two went on to the Sectional Open match where they both were stopped in the first round. Paterson finished with a 22-1-0 record. Other senior wrestlers are Toren Brodnak (14-6-1), Jim Hicks (18-4-1). and Ed Ehler (15-6-0), One of the Bom- bers' troubles was that they could not fill the 98 lb. weight class and therefore had to enter each match by forfeiting six points. Varsity Wrestling Junior High Wrestling The Junior High wrestlers had a successful season this year. The team suffered only three losses but won nine matches. The losses were to Lagrange Junior High twice and to Saugerties. The wrestlers were victorious over the three Kingston Junior High teams, and Arlington. The leading wrestler for the Bombers was Steve Roberts who compiled a 12-0 record. Greg Doyle also excelled with a 10-1-1 record. Tennis Team The 1971 tennis team consisted of only four players. With so few players the team had a hard time in their matches where a team of six or eight is ideal. The team's record was 2-9 with the Bombers playing larger and more experienced team Members of the team were Toren Brodnak, Scott Chase, Mark Francis, and senior Jim Casazza. 108 Track The trackmen had something to look forward to during the 1971 Track season - an all-weather track. With this track four school records were broken. The Bomber's record was 5-5 this season, an improvement on the previous year. The Bombers hosted the D. C. S. L. meet on their new track. Several county records were broken during the meet. Pine Plains did not place in this meet, however. This season's track team consisted of 26 runners, 16 of whom earned letters. The individual scoring leader was Dan Northrop with 78 points. 109 Baseball 1971 The Bomber baseball team enjoyed its best season in many years. The Bombers finished in first place in Bi-Valley League after winning 18 games without a loss. The only loss the Bombers suffered came in post-season play. The Bombers were defeated in the first round of the class D championship by Tuckahoe, the team that went on to win the championship. Senior John Aim was the leading pitcher with a 7-1 record. Jeff Burton was the of- fensive leader with a .373 batting average. The team lost many ballplayers through graduation. Senior ballplayers were Ray Enright, John Aim, Pete Bartolomeo, Jay Burdick, Ron Kellerhouse. and Pete Stapf. Despite the loss of these players the Bombers hope to have a good season as they will be gaining players fromtthe J.V. PITCHERS AND RECORDS LEADING BATTERS John Aim 7-1 Ray Enright 4-0 Jim Biakney 5-0 Charles Eckhardt 1-0 Pete Stapf .328 Jay Burdick .303 Jeff Burton .373 Jim Valentine .364 Team batting average - .278 110 Varsity Baseball III Junior Varsity Baseball JV BASEBALL 1971 The J.V. Baseball team was not to be out done by the Varsity this season as they compiled a 12-1 record. The only loss of the season came for the Bombers in their final game, against Red Hook. The Bombers had beaten Red Hook earlier in the season. The Bombers used only two pitchers during the season. The pitchers were David Lasher (6-1) and Harold Denfeld (6-0). David Lasher was also the offensive leader with an amazing .519 average. Many other members of the team had high averages also. 112 Soccer Helen Imperato Laurey Fahey Lee Burdick Michele Bad ore Karen O'Dell Colleen Baldwin June Paterson Nancy Lawson Debbie Allen Brita McCauley Maureen Sheridan Cindy Lowe Sandy Squeo Debbie Wilson Kathy Staats Out of 21 girls, only 5 were upperclassmen and only 9 had played soccer previously.
