Future years, while bringing hardships and new joys, will also bring back fond memories of our high school days. The thoughts and good times recorded herein will serve to keep alive our warm regard for the school we cherish. Dedication You mean I DON’T have another boy?” “There MUST be more mercury.” MR. SMITH MR. PARLIMAN The thirteen-year path leading to our Senior year was not always an easy one. To se- lect the given few who have aided us more than all others would be impossible. But these two men, Mr. Smith and Mr. Parliman, have guided our footsteps in the pursuit of knowledge and unity. In recognition of the vital role they have played in our formative years and out of deepest regard, we dedicate this yearbook to our two advisors. Mr. Stanton s Letter To the Class of 1964: You are now completing the first step of your formal edu- cation. For the past thirteen years it has been our privilege and our responsibility to assist you In attaining this goal. The Board of Education has provided you with necessary facilities and the Faculty has worked diligently with you. If you have taken full advantage of the opportunities offered, you are pre- pared for the steps which will follow. Some of you will go on to additional formal education, while others will go directly to the business of making a living. Regardless of your future en- deavors, our interest and our best wishes go with you. You will find the competition for a position keener with each succeeding year, but if you always put forth the best effort of which you are capable, the world will make a place for you. The best preparation you can make for the future is good sound education. To acquire this solid foundation make the full use of today and every day. It is all right to be contented with what you have but never with what you are. Francis W. Mr. Foster, you have given us training and behind-the- scenes guidance so vital to our years as high school students. For this and that rare gift of humor that light- ened our troubles and tasks, we thank you. Without you, Mr. Davis, all our travels and work would have been in vain. Without your counsel, your kindness, and above all, your Im- measurable help, we could never have been prepared to face the larger, competitive world of tomorrow. Your smiling face, your ex- pert leadership, and your kind words were a godsend in our times of doubt and depression. Mrs. Lawson, we thank you. Mr. Stanton. The National Honor Society is just what its name implies. It is a national society which honors outstanding ability and achievement in high school students. It is an out- growth of many societies in the colleges. Membership in the society is the highest honor our school can bestow; an honor which is earned by participation, diligence, and leadership from the time of entrance into high school. Unlike some, this society is not based on scholarship alone. There are four qualities which a member must have - scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Scholarship is the will to learn and the love of knowledge. Character is the quality which embodies honesty and integrity. Leadership is the ability to guide others in the right direction. Service is the desire to help others, whether individually or in a group. Let it be hoped that the candlelight ceremony will serve as an inspiration to up- coming classes. This honor is worth striving for. Future Teachers of America ROW 1: M. Remsberger, M. Ried, K. Fahey, J. Churton, C. Jessup, Mrs. Lawson. ROW 2: M. Brennen, V. Horton, B. Rossi. M. Joys, L. Wheeler. The unheeding voice of time has declared our fates - our lives are launched in-defiance. Beyond return, we can only dare the future. We are all to die. Time is the incidental. In the short time permitted us on earth. We all strive for some measure of permanence. The finality of death grants nothing material immortality. Knowledge, memories, raptures, and happiness are elusive treasures we must hoard. Consider, nothing else is worth perserving. We cannot hope to mold society - we can only defy its efforts to mold us. This, our moment of transition, will lead to lives of obscurity, frus- tration, or gratifying fruition. Beyond return, we can only dare the future. - Dane Archer Somebody hide those bottles. 1 'Yes sir, that's my baby'. No that wasn't an , II tl explosion..• Quit hog in the blanket. i , What...me. Vater. Chew on that for a while A fantastic year on the gridiron brought one of the finest P. P.C.S. football teams in recent history to another Bi-Valley championship. Led by co-captains Ron Withers and Wayne Wilson, the hard charging Bomber line usually consisted of Jay Sadler, Pete Miller, Charlie Monteforte, Mike Barton, Andy DiRienzo, Butch Foland, Norbert Gel- ston, and Ken Miller. The chief ball-carriers were Mike Ruzich, Ken Meccariello, Rich Withers, Dan Eckhardt, Tom Allen, Les Funk, Barry Hutchings, and John Sidoli. Early in the season the team lost the services of quarterback Ron Potter. The P.P.C.S. undefeated record was marred by only one score, a 6-6 tie in the opening game with Haldane. Nevertheless, the team showed the spirit which was to carry it to victory. This was proven when the Bombers emulsified Oakwood's eleven 52-0. The following Saturday, Pine Plains invaded Red Hook and clobbered its arch- rivals 26-6. Millbrook was next to fall when the Plainsmen defeated them 12-0 in a hard-fought contest. Having attained second place with a 2-0-1 league record, Pine Plains encountered undefeated Dover. The odds-makers were proven wrong when they placed Pine Plains the underdogs, for the Bombers edged the Dover boys 19-13. Now Pawling was the only obstacle in front of the champions. Coach Les Barton's lads crashed through with a come- from-behind 12-7 victory on their home field to clinch first place and another small- school championship. The 1963 football season was indeed one of the finest in our school's history. ENDS FULLBACKS TACKLES HALFBACKS A. Adams K. Meccariello K. Miller M. Ruzich T. Berge B. Hutchings T. Kelly T. Allen R. Classmates and Teachers First, I would like to say that my stay in Pine Plains has been a very enjoyable and interesting experience. I also find that my stay here will greatly help me in years to come. The people have been so friendly and under- standing that I can not help but feel that I belong. The only thing that bothers me is the weather. Gee!! The teachers have been very good and very willing to help and to aid me in all my studies. My studies have been will worth my time and energy. It was hard at first to get accustomed to the different school ways, but now I feel that I have an understanding of the school and its working. As I am still learning the English language, I can not express myself very well. However, I would like to say to all my friends and people that I have met, my greatest thanks and appreciation for your kindness, understanding and help when I needed it. To all, I extend an invitation to come and visit me in Caracas. If you are ever in Venezuela come to Los Cerritos Ave., Ota. Bethania, Urb. Bello Monte, Caracas. iAdios amigos! Hasta la vista. To the Teachers and Students of P. P.C.S. As my stay in this country is rapidly coming to an end, 1 will use this opportunity to thank all of you for the friend- ship and hospitality you have shown me. From the day 1 started in Pine Plains Central I have received full under- standing from the teachers and the students, and I have the feeling that they all have tried to make me feel at home. When 1 go back to Norway, I know for certain that I will miss Pine Plains, and in the future 1 will look back to this year as one of the greatest in my life. EDWIN PILCH Time To Look In our complicated, specialized world, once a person begins working in a particular field he is likely to stay in it. As his experience grows, his knowledge and professional capabilities grow more and more specialized. As a person becomes more specialized in one field, he usually cannot change to another without starting at or near the bottom. So it is more important than ever that graduates take time to look around them to determine what their greatest talents and interests are. When you have done that, choose the field where your real interests and abilities lie, for that is the surest and fastest road to success and happiness. Though specialized, our world offers a wider range of opportunities than ever before. And there is in this modern world a place for each of us, a place where each can succeed and find happiness. It is up to each person to find his own place. The time to look is now.
