It goes without saying that our Science Fair would not have achieved half the success obtained without the impetus you provided. After all you have done for us, the only way we can repay you is by fulfilling the expectations you hold for our class. Special Mrs. Platzer, you have filled the halls of P. P. C. S. with music. I think we can speak on behalf of all the classes you have seen through Grade Chorus when we take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude. As we conclude this, our last supplement to the 1963 Pine Log, we become more aware of the in- valuable assistance you have ren- dered to our class as well as all the classes before us. As the guiding force behind our efforts, we thank you very much, Miss Hubbard. Mr. Caswell, you have helped us through some of our worst and some of our best years, always ready with timely aid and advice. No one can deny that your help has been beyond the call of duty. As he watched, a beam of light reflected from a window and fused into laughing, playing columns of children in the yard below. As the light waned and swirled, the children grew, and the walls enveloped them. They waited while seven bells rang, and seven years passed. Each year brought new faces, and new places, augmenting the apparition of '63. The wind watched as the light swelled and illuminated the third and last floor, where now, but forty-nine lights were glowing; each drawing from the other and adding to the whole. The lights were now strong and yearning, waiting anxiously for the wind to bear them to places of darkness. The wind beckoned in memory, Come ride in my arms; havk the world as your limits. But the lights, unhearing, were already borne on ambitious wings. The doors were all closed, and '63 gone. And so was the light that evoked such a vision. Still, catch the wind before he forsakes that hill and ask him to recite forty- nine places of eternal light. Most Athletic SUE and DAVE PAM and MIKE Wittiest SHARON and KENNY Most Likely to Succeed , iSVv Y-'.O ' ■ u 6 Best Dressed Class Will We, the Class of 1963, do solemnly bequeath the following bequests to the benefiting beneficiaries: Sharon Golden, a belle from Babylon, leaves her ability to babble on to Pat Castellan. Through September the team worked hard and on the 29th they encountered Haldane High School at Cold Springs. The Bombers' starting lineup consisted of Ron Withers, left end, Ed Pilch, left tackle, Wayne Wilson, left guard, Vin Chorney, center, P. J. Agnelli, right guard, Pete Miller, right tackle, Bob Barnett, right end, Ron Potter, quarterback, Dave Barton, left halfback, Chris Sidoli, right halfback, and Dennis Riddick, fullback. From the opening gun, the Cold Springs boys hardly had a chance as a superb Bomber defense held Haldane scoreless. Likewise, nothing could go wrong for the Bomber offense as the talented trio of Sidoli, Riddick, and Barton raced through large holes made by the Bomber offensive line. So as the sun set over the gridiron, the Bombers tucked a 32-0 victory under their belts. On October 13, Red Hook made the mistake of coming to Pine Plains. The Bomber defense was again outstanding as they held Red Hook scoreless. Chris Sidoli and Dennis Riddick teamed up to form an unbeatable combination as they chalked up twenty-five points for the Bombers. Sid Osofsky moved in to fill the question of the quarterback slot, and he turned in a fine performance. On the next Saturday, the Bombers traveled to Millbrook the most important game of the season. Before the battle both Millbrook and Pine Plains had won two league games with- out a loss. The winner of this game would most likely go on to win the league. The Bombers were way up for this game and it certainly showed in the defense as Millbrook continuously ran into a stone wall. The Bomber offense was sparked by great line play, credit should go especially to Vin Chorney, P. J. Agnelli, and Wayne Wilson. The backfield punch was supplied by Sid Osofsky and Dave Barton, who ran for three scores. The Bombers won again, 20-0. On October 27, Dover mains came to Pine Plains looking for a victory. But, it was another great day for the Bombers as they held the Dover lads scoreless. Dennis Riddick virtually destroyed Dover by running over, around, and through them. Bomber halfbacks, Sidoli and Barton added some fine running to the team strength. The Dover boys returned home defeated by a 28-0 score. On November 3, Pawling welcomed the .Pine Plains team. On the opening kickoff, halfback Dave Barton returned the ball eighty-five yards for the score as the Bomber blocking was superb. A few minutes later, Barton went in for the Bombers' second score. But, Pawling was by no means finished and they scored just before the end of the first half. As the second half began, neither team could get started and the Bombers take home a close one, 13-6. Now with six victories and no losses, the Bombers faced their last team, Greer. If they win this one, they will have an undefeated season and the Bi-Valley Championship. On November 12, Greer visited Pine Plains. Greer had the upper hand in the first half, gaining consistent ground on thirty plays, while the Bombers moved along on only fourteen. However, the Bombers broke loose in the third quarter as Osofsky, Barton, and Riddick pooled their talents. Osofsky started off by tearing up the turf on a fifty-seven yard quarterback sneak. Then, Barton raced for two more scores, one being a ninety-four yard run and one being a fourteen yard end sweep. Osofsky then kicked the extra point to end the game with a score of 19-0. Barton’s Bombers ended the season with a sensational 7 and 0 record and with the Bi- Valley League Championship. All the credit for this accomplishment goes to all the members of the squad. They are: Frank Brower, Larry Dykeman, Vince Vater, Chris Hoffman, Gerry Foland, Dennis Rice, Art Adams, Phil Weaver, Gene Verin, Rich Lawson, Dan Eckhardt, John Sidoli, Mike Barton, Alex Malarchuk, Harry Wendover, Tommy Kelly, Ron Near, Les Funk, Russ Hoysradt, Ray Shook, Paul Harrison, Bill Klink, Pete Miller, Ron Withers, Norbert Gelston, Ed Pilch, Rich Withers, Andy DiRienzo, Wayne Wilson, Charlie Monte forte, P. J. Agnelli, Terry Sturdivant, Ron Potter, Vin Chorney, Barry Hutchings, Bob Barnett, Sid Osofsky, Dennis Riddick, Don Allen, Chris Sidoli, and Dave Barton. For those of us who are leaving, I would like to thank Coach Barton, Coach Foster, and Coach Caswell. It has been a pleasure to play under such fine coaching. Varsity Basketball As che 1962-1963 basketball season got under way, it was evident that Coach Barton had molded another fine cage squad. Sid Osofsky, Kev Battistoni, Dave Barton, Mike Ruzich, Bob Barnett, Ken Adams, Ken Brizzie, Jay Sadler, Ron Withers, Alvis Upitus, Dane Archer, and Rich Withers supplied the man power for this fine Bomber team. The well-rounded Bomber unit worked superbly together to average fifty- five points per game to the opponents thirty-four points. Sid Osofsky, con- sidered one of the best cagers in the county, supplied the spark which ignited the team to victory after victory. Ken Adams, Ken Brizzie, and Dave Barton added to the Bomber strength by turning in fine offensive and defensive per- formances each and every game. Mike Ruzich, Kev Battistoni, and Jay Sadler furnished the team with some firstclass work at the all-important center position. However, no basketball team can survive without good reserves and this year the team had some good ones. Bob Barnett, Alvis Upitus, Dane Archer, Ron Withers, and Rich Withers more than once came off the bench to add a sharp punch to the Bomber team. Girls' sports have become a very important item in Pine Plains Central, and enthusiasm is the word which has made it so. Mr. Mattice, the girls' athletic director, had approximately fifty girls try out for the Interschool Hockey Team. After much deliberation, an able squad was chosen. The girls played twice in freezing temperatures and ended the season winning one and losing two. Special recognition should be given to Gail Irwin who scored all the goals for Pine Plains this season. Girls’ Volleyball FIRST ROW, left to right: V. Fingar, P. Golden, S. Finkle, P. Golden, C. At the end of the last game they showed a one and three record. Girls’ Basketball FIRST ROW, left to right: Gail Irwin, Sue Kilmer, Pam Simmons. SECOND ROW: Vicki Fingar, Virginia Valentine, Sharon Golden, Karen Creswell. Basketball seems to be the biggest sport in Pine Plains Central School. Last year, the girls had an undefeated season. Among their foes was Oakwood who had not lost a game for almost four years. Red Hook, Rhinebeck, Webatuck and Millbrook are the rivals of Pine Plains this year and the girls plan to come out on top at each game. ROBERT PODRIS Compliments of BOB COOPER WONDER BREAD DISTRIBUTOR Pine Plains New York YOU ASK You ask a question. When it is answered or solved, you have gained a bit of knowledge. Having gained that bit of knowledge, you ask more questions because every bit of knowledge implies new questions. Though education never can be complete for any person; though education continually becomes, in fact, more and more incomplete as the questions one asks become more complex and numerous, it is not futile. It is no more futile than working for some great ideal such as freedom because each step forward in education or in the quest for freedom is in itself a personal reward. And the similarity between education and the quest for freedom goes further. Each step forward in education takes the thoughtful person a step closer to the greatest freedom of all — the freedom from ignorance which is self-realization. Education is always a beginning. IBM takes great pleasure in congratulating all of this year's graduates and in wishing each of you a long and rewarding journey on the endless road of awakening. We bid you to look upon your graduation not as graduating FROM school but TO broader education and greater fulfillment.
