WEBSTER Dear Seniors As the moment of my departure is fast approaching, I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for this past year. All my wonderful ex- periences have unfortunately come to an end. Soon we shall part, but the separa- tion will be but a physical one. In spirit I shall be with you all. I would like to thank you, the members of the Senior Class, and P. P. C. S. for accepting me as a part of the student body. You kept me busy and each day made my stay more interesting. At first I thought that I would feel lost. How- ever, you immediately dispelled my qualms and surrounded me with love and friendship. You presented me with a camera in order that I might be able to record many precious memories. Thank you for your patient effort in trying to understand my funny accent and strange Italian customs. Sometimes, I had difficulties (physics, for instance), but there was always some one to cheer me up and make me forget my troubles. The United States has be- come another home to me and this makes my departure more difficult. I shall always remember the wonderful times I've had in your fascinating country living with extraordinarily friendly people. The only thing that is left to say is that if anyone of you should ever come to Italy, remember Via Guardi 3, Trento. Thanks again and Good Luck. Arrivederci Flavia Gregori So here has been dawning Another new day Think, wilt thou let it Slip useless away? Is. Advisor, Mrs. Putorti, C. Reed, S. Augie, N. Creswell, P. Simmons, C. I am sure that when a student enters the seventh grade, one of the most impressive assem- glies he is privileged to witness is that in which the members of the National Honor Society are tapped. In this ceremony he becomes acquainted with the strict qualifications of this organization - Leadership, Scholarship, Character, and Service - that he himself must dili- gently adhere to if he is ever to attain such an honor. To become a member in this society by striving to build these qualities in one's self is an incentive to work and an aid to character development. But how much more rewarding to receive this honor by simply being the sort of person judged worthy to belong! In many schools scholarship is the only pre-requisite to membership. In our school the other qualities of leadership, character, and service are equally stressed with scholarship. It can truly be said that membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be conferred upon any student in our school. FIRST ROW: S. Kilmer, D. Scholz, F. Gregori, C. With Pete Cahill, left end; Dick Hutchings, left tackle; Wayne Wilson, left tackle; Steve Jones, center; P. J. Agnelli, right guard; Jerry Schuck, right tackle; Bob Barnett, right end; Ron Potter, quarter- back; Dave Barton, left halfback; Dennis Riddick, fullback; and Don Allen at slotback as die starting line up, the Bombers topped Haldane 20-0. The Pine Plains defense stopped Haldane cold while the offense ripped through their line. Dave Barton was die big gun in the Bombers attack, scoring the three touchdowns with 174 yards gained. The next week the Quakers of Oaltwood visited Pine Plains to fall 19-0. Early in the first period, Dennis Riddick smashed over from the two yard line for the first touchdown. Then in the third and fourth periods, Pine Plains drove twice from mid-field, with Dave Barton carrying, for the final yardage in both. Again the Bombers' solid defense held for the second shut-out. On October 21, Pine Plains traveled to Red Hook. The Bombers were fired up for this game and in the first period they started a drive on the rain-swept field with Dave Barton carrying over for the 6 points. The defense held for the first half but broke down in the second with the Hookers scoring once in the third quarter and twice in the fourth to beat Pine Plains 20-6. The locals were then visited by Millbrook who overran the Plainsmen 33-6. The highlight of the game was Dennis Riddick's 93 yard punt return for Pine Plains only score. The team lost the services of Barry Hutchings who suffered a leg injury. The Bombers traveled to Dover Plains for the next game and with a strong attack defeated Dover 28-17. Dave Barton, Don Allen, Dennis Riddick, and Chris Sidoli had good blocking provided for them by Bob Barnett, Pete Cahill, Jerry Schuck, Errol Filippini, Wayne Wilson, P. J. Agnelli, and Steve Jones. Dave Barton scored a touchdown in each quarter and Rog Hermans kicked two extra points. Dennis Riddick was the work horse on the backfield with 100 yards rushing. The Plainsmen played host to Pawling for its fourth victory of the season. The linemen again opened large holes with Dave Barton scoring five touch- downs and passing to Bob Barnett for one. Don Allen went 45 yards for the other touchdown and Rog Hermans kicked 3 extra points, he also averaged 47 yards for 7 kickoffs, to beat Pawling 46-6. For the last game of the season the Plainsmen traveled to Greer. The first half wasn't too good for the Bombers with Greer scoring twice. Pine Plains came back in the second half with Chris Sidoli and Dennis Riddick each scor- ing once and Rog Hermans kicking an extra point. Greer came back, how- ever, with two more touchdowns to make the score 13-25. Dennis Riddick was the main runner with 111 yards gained through holes opened by the fight- ing line. This was the last year for Seniors; Steve Jones, Dick Hutchings, John Gel- ston, Rog Hermans, and Rick Osofsky. Basketball Pine Plains, under the leadership of Coach Barton, continued its winning streak through the 61-62 season. With captain Rog Herman, Sid Osofsky, Ken Adams, Dave Barton, and Ken Brizzie as starters, and Rick Osofsky, Bob Barnett, Dennis Riddick, Jim Storms, and Bob Podris backing them up, we started off in high gear. On December 5, Pine Plains started the ball rolling by defeating Webutuck 50-22. Before Christmas vacation they won four more games, including Rhine- beck, 49-26 and Arlington, 60-43. Coming back from a well-earned rest, the Plainsmen played host to Webutuck and defeated them 56-13. The Bombers then took to the road. Red Hook came first, going down with a score of 48-28. The Indians of Wappingers' came next. They put up a good fight, but lost 48-35. The Plainsmen then visited Staats- burg and came home with a 47-17 victory. Roe-Jan, with high hopes, visited Pine Plains only to suffer a 48-19 defeat. Tivoli followed and again the Plains- men were victorious with a score of 57-15. Rhinebeck was the host for the next game. We established many years ago, a student scholarship and have been always interested in the results. We think they have been a great success. Much appreciation for our scholarship has been indicated by the THANK YOUS received from the qualifying students. Also for many years it has been our policy to employ PINE PLAINS CENTRAL SCHOOL students’ assistance for our various agriculture interests and for processing quality in - LEGUMES and GRASSES - for a wide domestic market in the Northeast - al- so for a substantial export market for PUERTO RICO and SOUTH AMERICA. A student application for summer employment for our enter- prise will be of interest to us. THE HEDGE - PINE PLAINS, N. Y. Compliments of FAIRFAX BIOLOGICAL LABORATORY Phone: CO 6-3705 Clinton Corners New York LEARNING MAKES THE MAN Education has been called a two-way avenue. A studentis givenfacts and principles to assimilate but what he has learn- ed should lead him, in turn to ask further questions -- to delve deeper in his quest for knowledge. This learning process never ceases. At no time inlife can a man or woman say, Now lam educated. 11 Graduation from high school or college should be looked on as a stepping stone to further inquiry into the verities of human activity. What he learns makes the man. Unless he arrives at a knowledge of himself in relation to the world around him, he has failed to become educated. During recentmonths much stress has been placed on sci- entific achievement. Man-made celestial bodies circle the earth and the moon. Great strides are being made in every known technological field. Yet the destiny of mankind will not be determined by this type of success alone. A balance must be achieved between man's scientific and technological progress andhis grasp of theancient human val- ues and cultural traditions acquired painstakingly through the centuries.
