Sandy Stickle - She’s genial, with a sunny personality, This can truly be said with finality. Art Sturdivant - Art really plays a wicked bass, The dance band will surely miss his cheerful face. Senior Census Sept. 8 - Last year's insignificant juniors breeze back to PPCS as all-knowing, care- fi- Sept. 9 - Sept 10 - luetco 1 MU free seniors. The seniors begin to reduce their lockers to scrap iron. Fifty-odd seniors receive an indoctrination to tyir. Davis and Social Studies 12 Sept. 24 - The seniors dispense with decorum as they realistically recreate school daze on the senior float during the Ag Fair Parade; Fran and Nikki try their hand at fortunetelling for their mutual benefit. Nov. 2 - Mr. Davis leaves the room with Mrs. Lawson while the seniors vote on the yearbook dedication, and, as Mr. Davis put it himself, they certainly didn't waste any time! Nov. 3 - The seniors halfheartedly try to match Mr. Davis’ pace on the way to the polls. Nov. 7 - One of the seniors suffered a slight accident yesterday. Steve Brodie's spirits were so high that he felt like jumping over some benches. The result, unfortunately, was a chipped bone in one arm. Nov. 16 - The opening of the deer season is heralded by the suspicious absence of several senior boys. Nov. 20 - The juniors stage their controversial Beatnick Drag, a dance that was certainly different, to say the least. Nov. 26 - George Steckler, after much prodding, finally remembers to return his Christmas card samples. Dec. 22 - After seeing the skilled swordplay in SCARAMOUCHE, Mr. Davis was prompted to show the seniors his old fencing foil, which has lately been relegated to the menial task of toasting marshmallows. Dec. 22 - The delicious thought of Christmas vacation, the Senior Prom, and holiday plans sweep through the school, making this last day before vacation one of little accomplishment. Dec. 23 - The efforts of some very hard-working seniors create an extremely enjoy- able evening for all who attended Winter Wonderland, the Senior Prom. Jan. 4 - Peter Rieck still has some money that he hasn't turned in for the Christmas cards he sold last year - $24.75! Jan. 5 - The horrible thought of term papers due January 15th is gradually beginning to penetrate the subconscious minds of the seniors. Jan. 15 - Merrie Barnett's absence was quite unnecessary as chance and a snow day sided with the seniors in giving them the entire weekend to finish their term papers. Jan. 22 - The seniors officially launch the PINE LOG with an assembly program. Jan. 25 - The honor plaque suddenly appears for the firt 'ime this year in the Senior homeroom. Hmm? Feb. 24 - Every last iota of talent possessed by PPCS students was utilized for the GO's Amateur Night. Mar. 19 - Mr. Borriello's mania for push-ups continues, much to the dismay of PPCS girls. Mar. 24 - The seniors follow their characteristically individual ways as they present a minstrel show in place of the annual senior play. Needless to say, it was very successful! May 15 - History repeats itself as the seniors again hand in another set of hastily- prepared term papers. June 17 - The Regents that seemed so far away a few months ago are here, and the Seniors definitely wish they weren’t! June 24 - Another chapter in Pine Plains history closes as the seniors of 1960 graduate. A Day With the Seniors 8:12 - Joan Kolster misses the bus again I 8:41 - Joan arrives in school just in time to participate in a mild verbal dispute with Cliff Blackburn and Kenny Knapp, who occupy the locker next to hers. 8:50 - The seniors in Mr. Perry's first period English class devote the next five minutes to intensive study of their spelling words. 8:53 - Mr. Davis expostulates during homeroom period, Haven't you people got any- thing to do besides sit here and talk? Turn around and get to work! 9:50 - Dave Crystal makes his characteristic entrance into Social Studies class - late! 10:41 - Merrie Barnett is usually the first to go into the girls' locker room to change for gym class, and, invariably she's the last one to come out! 10:43 - As a group of study hall students advance toward the library door, Miss Wagner suddenly remembers that the library is closed third periods! 11:26 - Half of Mr. Perry's senior English class occupies itself in the back of the room by doing everything from talking to doing physics to drawing cartoons! 12:48 - Kenny Knapp dashes up to his locker on the third floor after having been in Mount Ross just five minutes ago! 12:53 - Mr. Davis continues to badger George Steckler for his report card. 1:13 - Janet Thorpe goes down to the band room for a violin lesson for which she is more or less prepared. 1:36 - Mr. Perry withdraws to his office (actually, it's the magazine-cluttered stock room!) with his papers and a thermos bottle. - Coffee! 1:43 - Nellie Brower dashes back to the physics lab with a tray of ice cubes! ? (for experimental purposes only!) 3:22 - The seniors noisily return to their homerooms for dismissal. Class Poem At Last Now that we are through at last. Our thoughts still linger in the past Remembering all our friends and fun. Wondering what is yet to come. We've come a long way through the years. And with our joys we've had our fears. We've had our dances, had our Plays, And think of all those happy days. But now at last we graduate. We wonder what will be our fate. With a fond farewell and a tearful eye, We leave with memories that will not die. What lies ahead is yet untold, And with our memories we grow old. While we'll recall our youthful past. Now that we are through at last. Stephan Brodie re- Tina Bev Mary R. Matty Merrie Janet Mary G. Rosemary George S. Freddie John Pat Bernie Nellie Buddy F.F.A. VARSITY BASKETBALL Under the superlative coaching of Coach Baton the Pine Plains Bombers had one of the most successful teams the school has had. The team has played the entire season, 18 games, without being defeated. This has happened only twice before in P. P. C.S. history. Pine Plains was the only team in the county to have accomplished this feat. The starting five consisted of Bill Schutz, Rog Herman, Jim Ball, John Soracco, and Sid Osofsky. Other members included A1 Sauter, Matt Salvia, Dick Scholz, Bud Hill, Irv Haight, LowGalm, and Bill Boyles. Pine Plains started the new season off on the right foot by defeating arch-rival Arlington by a score of 55-51. Next they topped Roe Jan, 54-37, and Webutuck, 42-15. Then came the first two league encounters with Pine Plains paving the way to another championship by defeating Red Hook 48-29 and Staatsburg 40-19. After Christmas vacation the team picked up right where they left off by defeating Webutuck 65-31 and another league match, Tivoli, 73-40. Next came Wappingers, a bigger school rival, whom Pine Plains toppled by a score of 57-45. Following this game Pine Plains again defeated Roe-Jan, 54-28, by a good team performance. Thus ended the first half of the season for the Bombers who showed a record of 9 wins and 0 losses and league record of 3 wins and 0 losses. During the practice before the game with Oakwood, A1 Sauter suffered a knee injury. He had a torn cartilage and Al's services were sorely missed for the remainder. Starting with Oakwood Pine Plains won the next five straight. Each game represent- ing increased excitment because Pine Plains was still undefeated, the only team in the county. On Feb. 3, Pine Plains met Rhinebeck on the local court. Both were tied for first in the league with 6 and 0 records. The Bombers came through with a splendid team performance defeating Rhinebeck by 10 points. Again Pine Plains met Rhinebeck, but on the latter's court. We wasted no time in deciding who was to be the league champs and defeated them to take the league title for the fourth year in a row. From here, Pine Plains went on to defeat Oakwood in the final league game of the season to show for a league record of 10 wins and 0 losses. Arlington came to P. P. C.S. for revenge of the previous defeat they suffered. P. P. C. S. came through in championship fashion, winning 57-52. The starting 5 played the whole game and did a very good team job. Playing their last year for old Blue and White were: Bill Schutz, John Soracco, A1 Sauter, Bud Hill, Dick Scholz, Matt Salvia, Irv Haight, and Bill Boyles. I am sure that all of these boys are proud to have played ball under Coach Barton, and are proud to have bowed out with such a successful season. I don't think any of them will forget it! The starting five consisted of Dave Barton, Jon Adams, Ken Brizzie, Herm Meccariello, and Rick Osofsky. The other members included Ward Potter, Kevin Battistoni, Dennis Riddick, Bob Barnett, Ken Adams, Dick Hutchings, and Joe Giove. The boys had a very successful season with 15 wins and 2 losses. They show promise of producing good varsity teams in the future. JV Individual Scores Were: NAME Barton J. Adams Brizzie Meccariello Osofsky Potter K. A studentis givenfacts and principles to assimilate but what he has learn- ed should lead him, in turn to ask further questions -- to delve deeper in his quest for knowledge. This learning process never ceases. At no time inlife can a man or woman say, Now lam educated. Graduation from high school or college should be looked on as a stepping stone to further inquiry into the verities of human activity. What he learns makes the man. Unless he arrives at a knowledge of himself in relation to the world around him, he has failed to become educated. During recentmonths much stress has been placed on sci- entific achievement. Man-made celestial bodies circle the earth and the moon. Great strides are being made in every known technological field. Yet the destiny of mankind will not be determined by this type of success alone. A balance must be achieved between man's scientific and technological progress and his grasp of theancient human val- ues and cultural traditions acquired painstakingly through the centuries.
