They started the year off with a very successful square dance. With this money they paid the money required to purchase a machine to improve reading. They sponsored School Spirit Drive and plan to continue these activities designed to improve our school throughout the year. President Jo-Ann Reeves Advisor Miss Sears The Pine Grove Future Homemakers of America have had a very successful year. This year they initiated twelve new members into the club. Among their projects were: sponsoring an old fashioned box supper, sponsoring CCC Day (Cleanliness, Courtesy and Co-operation) at Pine Grove, participating in Nation- al FHA Week, and taking pan in the South Georgia Legion Fair. They still have a long road to travel but are well on their way. They have already purchased a 32-inch emblem for the chapter, have given the new beau, Billy Wess Coppage, a new sweater with the F.H. A. emblem, have given the old beau, Bobby Don Spell, an F.H.A. key and have many other imponant plans .... 4-H CLUB Sue Colegurn 1 Pledge My bead to clearer thinking. My heart to greater loyalty. My hands to larger service, and My health to better living. For my club, my community and my country. Helen Zeigler The members of the Pine Grove 4-H Club have performed some outstanding things this year. Carolyn Davis won the district, state and national contest in food prep- aration; attended the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago; was awarded a 300 dollar scholarship and attended a dinner given by Gov. Talmadge for achievement. Sue Coleburn also won first place in the canning contest at Tifton and Emmet Yan- cey placed third in the Swine Contest at Tifton. Although these are the outstanding achievements the entire club membership helped in every way to achieve a fine chapter record. Captain sP°“or Sarah Dasher Sheriff Fnteh The Pine Grove High School Safety Patrol i an organization of students elected and appointed at the beginning of the school year. They are assisted by Mr. Geriock. the bus driven and Sheriff Futch. They have an imponam and difficult task. Their duties consist of controlling die students on the busses to an extent where accidents and injuries will not occur, assisting with the opening of the door and making the crossing of highways and railroads safer for the students. This is a regular job which has to be done in a serious manner. Everything isn't all work and no play. It is possible for patrol members to an end Safety Camps. Ball games, and the Fair. The bus «bivers reward the patrol each year with an annual supper. President President---- Vice President Treasurer— - Secretary---- Reporter- - - - Advisor------ Sweetheart— - - - -Billy Stubbs - - - -Joyce Fields - Melville Cowart - Robert DeLoach Maurice Hightower - Mr. M. J. Lane Helen Zeigler Advisor The Pine Grove F. F. A. were outstanding in Future Farmer activities this year. Among their achievements were many prizes for livestock at the South Georgia Fair, the second best bull of the state. Champion Gilt at Moultrie, the three top cotton growers of the county, and the chapter was the first chapter in the County to receive an F. F. A. truck and Forestry Plot. The Chapter also had two boys in the 100 bushel corn club. BOYS’ BASKETBALL The Pine Grove Eagles under the excellent coaching of Mr. W. E. Fafford completed another successful year of basketball play. Displaying an eagerness to learn the boys jumped off to a successful start and went on to finish high in their division. The strong performance of such outstanding players as Melville Cowart, Maurice High- tower and Billy Wess Coppage. who helped us so much to drive to the 8th District finals, will be missed next year but we feel sure their tradition of clean play and sportsmanship will be carried on. GIRLS’ BASKETBALL The Pine Grove Eaglettes furnished splendid competition for the many teams on their schedule this year. Gradually improving during each game the Eaglettes compiled a fine season record. Each year our girls put forth every effort to carry on the records of scrappy, hard playing squads of the past. We are proud of them, their efforts for the year 1953 4, and their loyalty to a common cause--good sportsmanship. We will miss two of our most loyal. Sue Cain, a fighting guard, and Christen Peters, a fine manager. JUNIOR ATHLETIC TEAM Compliments of J.
