% EAGLE'S A ERIE HToday we follow Tomorrow we lead. Published by the PINE GROVE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR CLASS 1952-3 We the Senior class of 1953 wish to dedicate this annual to one who has been faithful and understanding throughout our last three years of high school. He has constantly been at our sides, out of the class as well as in, helping us to master our problems no matter how hard or complicated they maybe. We feel that we are not only expressing our gratitude, but the feeling of the entire school and community, in so dedicating this annual. It gives us great pleasure in presenting this record of our treasured memo- ries to you -----Mr. Donald Emory Gerlock. BOARD OF EDUCATION BOARD OF TRUSTEES MR. SANFORD JONES MR. JESSE BILES MR. Much has happened, but as I sit here on the edge of my Flying Saucer 1 can see all. Over there behind that cloud is Dennie Sutton, skipping off to play baseball for the No. 9 Cloudhopper team. Way up there in outer space, look through my Vue-Scope, is Glen Hambrick's Aerial Refueling Station. He and June Hightower operate their re- fuel power station for space ships and also manufacture dust wands for Betty Rigdon Wartzheimer and they are in charge of the Milky Way. On the horizon I see a tiny streak. That will be Space Cadets Ernest McDonald and Roy McQuaig still trying to establish a new Bemiss to Mars speed record which is held at present by Almarene Copeland, now a Lt. in the Women's International Air Force. Down in that modern laboratory one can find Henry Touchton who. after successfully quartering the atom, is now doing research work on the growth of human hair. He plans to replace all that hair lost by teachers of his former classmates. Billy Jones, also a research scientist, has succeeded in several experiments. He, as you probably recall, perfected the six legged chicken that has no neck. And over in that large space building, resting on space, one can find the officers of Senator William Davis. He now represents the Venus Constellation in the Senate. (As you know this is the 53rd state and the first outer planet accepted for statehood.) Here also Gwen Jones Siddlehower is employed as Chief Typist for the Senator. Kath- leen Parker Quartznipper at present occupies the position of Chief Advisor to the Sena- tor. Her husband, Teedle Quartznipper is Assistant to Thelma Faircloth who is the owner of the Valdosta to the Moon Rocket Service. Of course you know Helen Hutchinson and Mary Alice McIntyre were the discoverers of not one but two men in the Moon! And they both are still there - - on the moon. Buddy Zeigler, long a member of the Outer Space Patrol, is now writing a book en- titled, Life Among the Martians or My Life in a Spacemobile:' Well, 1 must leave as soon as I can screw on my head. I don't believe I have been getting enough oxygen. Don't trip over any clouds! BILLY WEST COPPAGE LA VIVIAN REDDISH BILLY STUBBS JIMMY DAUGHTERY MELVILLE COWART CHARLES RUIS ROBERT W. Sue Colburn Carolyn Davis The members of the Pine Grove 4-H Club again this year completed an outstanding record of accomplishment. Each member contributed his share in carrying on the var- ious activities of the club. Three members attended the Southcentral District Achievement meeting, after win- ning out in county competition. These club members were Sue Colburn, poultry demon tration; Carolyn Davis, food preparation; and Laurine Moore, dress revue. Billy Davis was declared national winner in leadership, receiving a trip to National 4-H Club Congress, a $300 scholarship, and a trip to Washington, D.C. to call on President Eisenhower at the White House. President----------- 1st Vice President - 2nd Vice President - Secretary— - — ■ Treasurer- --------- Advisor------------- Chapter Sweetheart Henry Touchton ----Billy Jones George Mulligan Robert DeLoach Melville Cowart ----M. J. Lane - - Sarah Dasher During the past year the Pine Grove F.F. A. chapter has been outstanding in many things. The chapter bull, kept by Joyce Fields placed second in the state and Joyce received $125 as the award. At the county fair the boys from Pine Grove won more first places than any other chapter. Richard Rigby showed the Grand Champion dairy heifer. The members received around $200 in prize money. The members also did a fine job landscaping the community and school campus.. Betty Rigdon Sheriff Futch The Pine Grove High School Safety Patrol, a group of students elected to their jobs at the beginning of the school year, and assisted by the Sherrif, Jewell Futch. has an important and difficult task. Daily observance of their duties has helped our drivers and students. GIRLS’ BASKETBALL The Eaglettes, who have provided stiff competition for teams in their district for several years started the year with four veterans and slowly built up a scrappy group that both won and lost many games. Although the season record included several losses we are again proud of the spirit and fight displayed by members of the team. In many games their scrappiness provided the necessary margin of points necessary for victory. Their aggressive but clean play has gained for them a reputation for which they can be proud. The squad will next year feel the loss of Gwen Jones, Kathleen Parker, Almarene Cope- land, and Thelma Faircloth, all veterans who graduate this year. BOYS’ BASKETBALL The Pine Grove High School Eagles, under the leadership of Mr. Wade Ring, newly appointed Basketball Coach, proved to be one of the finest squads the school has known. Well balanced in every respect, the team won every game played with teams in their class and lost only to Valdosta and Lakeland. Smoothly sailing into every opponent in the Southern Division playoff the Eagles rolled over every opponent with ease and clamped the lid on the Eighth District title by de- feating Odum and Hoboken. The Eagles then dumped highly favored Montezuma, top contender for the State title, but were defeated in the semi-finals by Stilson. Our team and Mr. Ring deserve great credit for carrying us closer to a State title than ever before. LUNCHROOM DIRECTORS MR.
