HO E ECONO ICS Home economics is a ninth grade course which offers experience in many aspects of homemaking - consumer education and management, food and nutrition, household furnishing, clothing and textiles, personal and hmnan development, family relationships, and career orientation. Students make articles of clothing in class, and prepare meals and snacks. A total class enrollment of 147 students consists of 37 young men. 000 UPA T10 AL I FQRMA T10 The occupational information course is designed to help students become aware of and prepared for the world of work. Students conduct interviews, perform occupational plays and fill out various job applications. Charlene Raynor uses electric saw while making napkin holder. AGRICULTURE Agriculture I is an introductory course to job occupations in agriculture and agriculture related areas. Students are exposed to basic shop skills and the use of laboratory equipment and are required to complete two woodworking projects and one supervised occupational experience . 9 I1 5 J O URNALISM Journalism is a full year course of study for eighth grade students who desire to become members of the newspaper or annual staff in the ninth grade . These students organize , write , and produce a class or individual newspaper. A field trip may be a visit to the Fayetteville Publishing Company. Students are also introduced to the mass media and there is an in depth study of the newspaper. Mrs. Oliver looks on as journalism students read the newspaper. TYP WRITI G Typewriting l is designed to develop, through class and individual drills, touch typewriting competencies . Special attention is given to typewriter care, developing speed accuracy, proper techniques, letter styles, simple tabulations and centering, rough draft, and manuscripts. More up to date equipment and the 9 , newest AV materials are being used in the typing classes. ESSA READI G LAB The ESSA READING program is designed to al help students develop the basic skills needed in the pursuit of a successful career. ig Mrs. Robinson helps ESSA students. F -ff UD
