M Q CULTURAL ART The art program is designed to allow students to explore various art techniques, artists and art materials through drawlngs, pottery, sculpttues and other art projects. The general music program is designed to provide the students with experiences in many aspects of music throught the study of musical theatre , several operas, musicals and ballet. The chorus, band, and art departments combine their talents each year for a Christmas concert and a spring arts festival FOREIGN LA G UA GE Spanish I gives students an opportunity to learn the language and the culture of the Spanish speaking countries, Activities include using language labs, cooking a Spanish meal, making a Spanish magazine, keeping a notebook and reciting dialogues. In French I the French language as well as facts about the French speaking cotmtries are taught. Students present dialogues and write compositions and reports in French. 9 I1 5 J O URNALISM Journalism is a full year course of study for eighth grade students who desire to become members of the newspaper or annual staff in the ninth grade . These students organize , write , and produce a class or individual newspaper. A field trip may be a visit to the Fayetteville Publishing Company. Students are also introduced to the mass media and there is an in depth study of the newspaper. Mrs. Oliver looks on as journalism students read the newspaper. TYP WRITI G Typewriting l is designed to develop, through class and individual drills, touch typewriting competencies . Special attention is given to typewriter care, developing speed accuracy, proper techniques, letter styles, simple tabulations and centering, rough draft, and manuscripts. More up to date equipment and the 9 , newest AV materials are being used in the typing classes.
