'Ili-W 19 7 5 Sports A Year Of Rebuilding The Hornet Power . . .led the Pine Bluffs team to a dismal 2-6 season. This marks the first losing year under Head Coach Syd Kaschke, who has a four year record of 20 victories, 15 defeats and 3 ties. Despite a poor season, the Hornets had the 3rd best scoring defense in Texas Trail Conference for 1975. The team was not unnoticed in State and Conference selections. Placing on the All-State team were: Ken Russell, lst team linebacker, Clint Floy, Punter, Bill Baker, 2nd team Defensive End, and Phil Thurlow, Honorable Mention Defensive Tackle. Joining the four previously mentioned on All-Conference are: Mark Haukap, Honorable Mention Offensive Tackle, and Loren Jessen, Honorable Mention Offensive Guard. The game was inspired by the Pine Bluffs Lions Club to raise funds for tennis courts to be located on school grounds. The event was a big help to the tennis courts project. Forbes brought lome a second place state award and Poelma placed 'ourth. Wrestling awards for 1974-75 went to Don Forbes for the most pins in the season, Doug Janicek for she most take-downs, and Gary Stecks for the most im- aroved wrestler. Hornets Down Gaels For Homecoming In an otherwise disappointing season, the Hornets rose to the occa- sion to defeat St. Mary's 26-14, Oc- tober 1 1 at Carlstrum Field. The Pine Bluffs team came from behind three times, from 7-0 and 14-7, to finally gain the lead 18-14 in the third quarter. The Hornets gained an in- surance touchdown in the fourth quarter to up the final score to 26-14. 4 Gerald Cooney C122 holds up a Gael while Clint Floy 130, and three other Hornets move in.
