B. Garrison, the :iine students who were elected to Na- tional Honor Society in their junior year began a full season by entertaining student leaders and teachers at a tea in Qctober. At every basketball game the Little Zebra also round these same nine people and their sponsor serving the public at the N. H. S. concession stand. When the ZEBRA went to press, members had not fully decided upon what purchase tor school betterment their protits would be used. Money making and entertaining, how- ever, were not the only important activities of this organization, At the State Convention held at Hope, the Pine Blutt delegation led a very interesting discussion. On March I5 they formally initiated twenty-one seniors and nine juniors. The speaker was Dr. D. D. McBrien. They closed their activities with the annual banquet which was held March 25 at the Carr Memorial Methodist Church. The National Honor Society admits to men.bership only those students who have most exemplified the objectives of leadership, scholarship, service, and character. Found- ed in l922, the Pine Blutt chapter is proud to be the oldest in Arkansas and the eighty- third organized in the nation. These are only a few of the familiar requests heard by our Little Zebra as he wandered about the library. This year's staff of about thirty-six mem- bers prepared new books, repaired the old ones, and manaqed most of the routine work under the supervision of Mrs. Annie Eddins, 1 V Y 9 . 5 , Their positions in the library were entirely voluntary, and the members received no scholastic credits for their work. Our library is one of the best equipped and best managed libraries in Arkansas. One of the most recent additions was a Memorial Shelf donated by Mr. and Mrs. N. l. Gantt in memory of Miss Anna Gantt, a former history teacher in PBHS. Pine Bluff took an early lead and kept it all the way. The lone Ionesboro score came after a Pine Bluff fumble. Zebras 61-Fordyce 7 The Zebras showed power as they pulverized the Fordyce Redbugs. The Pine Bluff line looked especially effective as they pushed Fordyce all over the field. Coach Terry substi- tuted freely, and still the Z's scored almost at will. Fordyce scored on a fumbled punt return. Zebras 40-Ft. Smith 7 By outclassing Fort Smith the Zebras gained their first Big Six victory. The game was marked by long runs and pass comple- tions by the Zebras. Reserve fullback Roy Edgington's two long touchdown runs highlight- ed the game. The Zebras show- ed a strong passing attack and defense. Pine Bluff 20--Blytheville 8 The Striped Mules' engagement with the all-letterman Chick ele- ven proved to be the roughest encounter to date for the Zebras. The Zebras' three TD's resulted from passes. Although lim Holmes showed his General- ship on the field, the Pine Bluff reserves proved that they could operate almost as efficiently as the first team. Pine Bluff 19-Camden 14 Traveling to Camden the Zebras played a hard hitting Panther eleven. The first half was spirit- less with each team scoring only once, but the Mules rallied in the third quarter and exhibit- ed some of their better football. Except for a Panther score in the fourth period, neither team threatened again. Pine Bluff 6-El Dorado 13 Playing host to a highly touted Wildcat eleven in two inches of water and a steady downpour, the Zebras exhibited some re- markable football. lt was a tie game until a Zebra fumble was recovered by El Dorado. With thirty seconds remaining, the Mules held for three plays until a Wildcat pass spelled defeat for a courageous Zebra eleven. Pine Bluff 26-N. Little Rock 7 lourneying to North Little Bock, the Zebras had an off night, but they still possessed enough power to wallop the Wildcats 26 to 7. Glenn Morrison and Francis Long kept the Mules in the game with long runs. North Little Bock's lone tally came late in the fourth period on a blocked punt. Pine Bluff 48-Warren 0 Warren proved to be a breather for the Zebras. The Mules scor- ed twice in the first five plays and the second string took over in the third quarter. The most spectacular play of the game was lim Holmes' pass gathered in by Don Wilson and carried 65 yards to paydirt. The Lum- berjacks never threatened. Pine Bluff 6-Little Rock 13 Playing host to their arch ri- vals! the Zebras encountered the Little Rock Tigers for their thirty-sixth engagement since l9ll. The Striped Mules play- ed a capable game of football, but lost because of a lack of reserve strength. The first half was played deep in Bengal ter- ritory with the Z's threatening twice. The game was frequent- ed by blocked punts, and the Zebras tally came when Don Wilson took a pitchout and but- ted his way twenty yards to paydirt. The Tigers countered and tied the score a few plays later. The final Little Rock score came when Ken Carter plunged from the one after having re- covered their own fumble on P. B.'s one. Clarence Fairweath- er played a fine defensive garne for the Zebras while Ken Carter and Bobby Spann stood out for the Tigers. Pine Bluff 40-Catholic High 6 ln their final home game of the season the Zebras played host to the Catholic High Rockets. Scoring once by ground and thrice on aerial plays, the Strip- ed Mules outclassed the Rockets all the way. The game was highlighted by a 72 yard pay- dirt sprint by Zebra Halfback Dick Chidester. Pine Bluff 39-Hot Springs 0 Scoring only twice and playing listless ball for the first half, the Zebras finally came to life in the third period and trounced the Trojans. The game was highlighted with runs by Glenn Morrison and Bill Holmes. Gor- don Herrington, Rowell Love- lace, and Leon Owen turned in a fine defensive game. 949 50 ZEBRA LETTERMEN BILL CAMPBELL All Slvlff' csllflffl Q . , ff V x FRANCIS LONG Full Bark qw .
