Eb-1 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The highest honor that can be achieved by a student of Pine Bluff High School is that of membership in the National Honor Society. Through the four years of the school season the students work hard, striving to attain the qualifications necessary for admittance to the society. To be eligible for membership in the Pine Bluff chapter one must be in the upper one- third of the senior class scholastically. and of this group only fifteen per cent are eligible. The scholastic record is not the only qualification necessary for nit-inbership. Other qualities that :ire eonsifleixicl :are eh:i1':ict,e1', service, and leaflship. This year thirty-two seniors were nominated as candidates for the Pine Bluff chapter. Grace Jones, a member of the senior class elected to membership in the society in her Junior year at Little Rock High School. is a transfer from the Little Rock chapter. Members of the National Honor Society this year are: Eloise Baim. Jack Bodie. Bill Burnham. Corene Choate, Fields Goff. Mary Elizazabeth Herrington. H. E. Hill. Pattye Jane Hogan. Frances Keith, Patsy Lee. Sara Ann Lee. Elizabeth McNemar. Betty Adine Miller. Louise Miller. Jim Mullins, Dolly Ann Moseley. Peggy Nall. Dick Pierce. Clarence Ponder. Theron Raines. Ivareese Redden. Lester Redmon, Adam Robinson. Christine Roebuck. Martha Ryland. Marie Sue Stalcup, Carl Stamper. Williziiii Stark. Marilyn Tomlinson. Josephine Toney. Caroline Triplett, and Charlotte Wood.

Quius and serious Quill and Scroll is a national honorary society for jourualisti: students with chapters in accredited high schools. This year thirty-five students were nominated for membership in the Pine Bluff chaptsr by Miss Josephine Martin, sponsor of the local chapter of Quill and Scroll and the Pine Cone, and Mrs. T. J. Collier Jr., sponsor of the Zebra. To qualify for membership one must be in the upper one-third of the senior class, a mem- ber of the newspaper of yearbook staffs, have done superior work, and be recommended by the supervisor governing the publications. Complete records and samples of the student's work must then be sent to the executive secretary, Mr. Edward Nell, of the Northwestern University in Chicago, for his approval. This year's members include: Allie Bess Atkins, Eloise Baim, Thomas Burford, Virginia Fountain, Mary Elizabeth Herrington, Martha Mann, Betty Adine Miller, Dolly Ann Moseley, Clarence Ponder, Juliette Putnam, Mary Lee Shanks, William Stark, Marilyn Tomlinson, Jose- phine Toney, Caroline Triplett, Billy Burnham, Myra June Burris, Joan Chambliss, Corene Choate, Lillie Pearl Cason, Tommy Collier, Elizabeth Gibbs, Frances Keith, Patsy Lee, Sara Ann Lee, Louise Miller, Elizabeth McNemar, Rose Marie Poynter, Theron Raines, Christine Roebuck, Ivareese Redden, Adam Robinson, Mary Jo Rowe. Rosa Mae Stuart, and Charlotte Wood. Calendar For pril Apr. 2: Mr. Bassett's math students put on the assembly today. Apr. 9: The assembly featured the senior play trailer. We can hardly wait. Apr, 10: Another dramatic triumph was chalked up for Mrs. Beall tonight. June Mad was definitely a success. Apr. 23: The concert band and Scrubby gave a concert this morning. A very professional job, boys. Apr. 30: The Commercial Departments program. directed and produced by Miss Bruton and Mr. Burnham. was a distinct novelty.
